How to set default session type to Plasma for sddm

nntp (aka, usenet) client in kde?

I currently use t-bird with an nntp account pointing to gmane to read this list and sereral others. Does kde have an nntp client program of any sort? I don't see it as a possible new account type in kmail. Also, search with kpackagekit yields nothing with "usenet" or "nntp" that is kde specific. -gene

Hi, Latest one of my Plasma 5 problems is that all text, xml, etc. type of files now open in LibreOffice Calc. I can't set KWrite to open it. If I change Application Preference Order, it resets itself immediately. kwin configuration files.

Hello, With KDE5, many of the configuration files locations have moved or been changed. I upgraded and I am having issues and I am convinced that it is due to conflicts between configuration files. I have searched for a answer on locations but I have not found one. I want to delete/move some files to see what is causing my problems. On test accounts that I have created, I don't have any issues so I want to check this out. Robin

How can I get back to default shortcuts shipped by a default Fedora install?

Hi, I was playing around shortcuts and eventually reset them default for all components. As a result of that I lost a couple of universal shortcuts like Alt+Tab. To remedy that I deleted ~/.config/kglobalshortcutsrc file. Now it did recover some like Alt+Tab but broke others like PrtSc. How can I get back to shortcuts shipped by a default Fedora install? KDE on Fedora - Continuous Integration proposal

Hello all Everyone knows that recently KDE SIG became more and more present and active. The goal is towards make KDE a good citzen on Fedora world. On latest meeting, i put under scrutiny to have a continuous integration process to keep up to date on recent releases. The initial idea is keep a continuous build on fix branch commits, not a daily yet, but this will be evaluated if this initial process proves a winning choice. So, Rex Dieter asked me to present the possible solutions, and open the discussion here until a final decision is be made. I will not discuss the resources needed now, because this will be defined depending on the solution we decide. Please be constructive. So here we are of the options: 1 - Using rawhide directly - This will make us have less work on the official releases since is already submitted on main Fedora database. We will need a secondary machine to run a setup script on jenkins ( or similar ). What counts against this procedure is that packages will be available only to rawhide users, limiting our test field ground. We will rely on a semi-complex process on look on kde git tree, built the tarballs, generate the packages and send to compilation on koji 2 - Using Copr kdesig directly - This will make us have less work similar as previous option, same external machine to jenkins ( or similar ). On the pro side of this solution, we can have all arches and fedora releases, including epel 7, been tested and have packages available for many users. What counts against is that we will need more extra work to the moment that we decide that the package x.y.z is good to consumption on the release servers ( koji ) 3 - Use KDE infrastructure and build our packages there. Before someone raise the argument that KDE project doesn't look some place to do this, recently we have the Noon project, that is building basically a Debia/Ubuntu distro inside the project fully accepted. So, there's no ground reasons to us request same thing if needed. Under KDE infrastructure, we could use their jenkins CI and at same time we would be glued on the KDE servers easing the git version pooling. The downside on this is that the generated artifacts will not be in a repository, so we still need a secondary machine to get the repository and at same time decide where to go the results. I personally think this is last resort, because will be too much work and could end up in not be successful 4 - The Hybrid solution - We get Copr or Rawhide solutions and add KDE Jenkins CI as the control machine. Using the command line capabilities of both koji and copr, we can easily setup a big compile job on some of this ones, controlled by the machine on KDE infra. This is my particular choice using copr, even not been the most simple, since we connect the both interested tech parts, KDE and Fedora, been KDE ready on the jb setup, git control on KDE repo, and Copr have all necessary Fedora parts to build the results. What counts against it is the initially complicated setup on integrate both techies, but i think is manageable. So, let's open for discussions. Regards, and Froeh Weihnachten :-)

Creating a LiveKDE USB stick

I see that RedHat recommend in <http://www.redhatguides.com/create-a-centos-7-bootable-usb-drive/> that one should create a CentOS LiveKDE USB stick under Windows using the Linus Live USB Creator app. I've been using Fedora LiveUSB Creator on a Fedora laptop. I'm wondering if there is any CentOS app for this? I know I can do it directly with dd, but I'd like to add some persistent storage, if that is possible. Incidentally, all the information I have seen on CentOS USB sticks assume one is running GNOME. KTorrent shutdown plugin missing

Hello, Did something happen with KTorrent recently? I was out of town for a week and got back today and updated my Fedora 23 (x86-64) machine. Now KTorrent doesn't have the 'shutdown' plugin - the one which is used to automatically shutdown the computer when one or more torrents finish downloading. Searching the web, I get only a discussion on arch linux forums: https://lists.archlinux.org/pipermail/arch-dev-public/2015-December/027595.… which basically says that kdebase-workspace package from KDE4 is being dropped and kTorrent has to be rebuilt without linking against it which results in loss of the shutdown plugin. Did something similar happen on Fedora too? menu-editor is broken in 5.5

am i the only one where the menu-editor no longer works? it appears sometimes like changes as remove the description are saved because you see the same state when open it again but after logout/login anything as before when i manually edit the .desktop-file in the userhome after logout/login it get applied - one reason more why i am terrible angry that "lancelot" is not ported to KDE5 - it was it's own process you can kill and just start with ALT+F2 -> "lancelot" to make sure it realizes changes however, the menu-editor now is a terrible broken blackbox

Hi, Another update more bugs. I use Breeze Dark desktop theme and Breeze icon theme. I use Breeze dark because I can't see anything in the breeze desktop theme. I need that contrast and black background for things to be visible. * Battery icon border is missing if you use breeze dark desktop theme. Changing icon theme between light and dark variant doesn't do anything. Using Breeze Dark icon theme break other things. * ownCloud icon is also hardly visible. But this dialog closes, and then another dialog opens asking the same thing, ad infinitum. I'd like to BR this, but I don't know what component to report the bug to.

Can't log out of KDE -- "Malformed URL"

Hi, Ok, so after today's update I can't log out of KDE, nor can I execute "Lock", "New session", "Suspend", "Restart", "Shutdown". An unhelpful dialog with "Malformed URL" message pops up and I am given a choice to "OK" it or... I don't know, close with window "close" widget. This is unacceptable. Not being able to logout is a security issue and possible threat to filesystem integrity if the user has to "hard reset" by pressing the reset/power button. Questions: 1. Anybody has any ideas how to properly quit KDE? 2. Some icons missing?

Hi guys, I have some strange issues here with some icons not being displayed. Hopefully someone can help or at least confirm that he is observing something similiar. 1. Amarok icon does not show in the system tray making it every difficult to use. It seems like it is actually in the tray, but where the icon shall be there is a gray area. However the context menu shows up when clicking at it and seems to be basically working fine, except there is no icon? 2. I think that most GTK applications are affected by something similiar. However this time the task bar is affected. Applications like "gPodder" or "eclipse" does not show any icon in the task bar and thus making it difficult to identify them easily. The icons seems to be basically available and seems to be working fine e.g. with a folder view on the desktop. Any ideas or similiar observations? Best regards, Florian

am i the only only where clipper indepedent of the options you use replaces the clipboard with the current selection which is braindead when you select the text you want to replace with CTRL+V BTW: currently in konqueror in need to use "copy" for files twice because after the first attempt it asks for a name and tries to paste the clipboard instead the files from the other tab/instance

KDE5 seems to become usable

after todays "updates-testing" login no longer hangs a minute around, the first time since Fedora 22 enter password and "hey the desktop is there" 3 times (logout two times becuase i couldn't believe it) with some luck also the way too many cases where the autostart-applications are asking for their passwords but the desktop itself as well as the controlbar don't appear is also fixed, sometimes i needed 5 login tries to get a full working desktop both not only on my machines - well, KDE 5.5 with the latest updates is in a shape where it should have been included *first time* in Fedora Dec 16 Breeze-GTK

I noticed last night, after getting the new KDE 5 download, that there is now a breeze-gtk package. I installed it immediately, logged out and in, and am not sure if I notice anything. In KDE 4, there used to be a setting in System Settings, but there appears to be nothing. Does this new version just do its thing in the background without the need for the user to take any action (preferred) or did I miss some setting somewhere?

I've noticed these messages in .xsession-errors Error loading plugin "kcm_lookandfeel" "The shared library was not found." Plugin search paths are ("/usr/lib64/qt5/plugins", "/usr/bin") The environment variable QT_PLUGIN_PATH might be not correctly set Error loading plugin "kcm_splashscreen" "The shared library was not found." Plugin search paths are ("/usr/lib64/qt5/plugins", "/usr/bin") The environment variable QT_PLUGIN_PATH might be not correctly set locate kcm_lookandfeel /usr/lib64/qt5/plugins/kcms/kcm_lookandfeel.so So it looks like QT_PLUGIN_PATH is not set correctly, should I care? If so, can I fix it?

Since updating last night (f23 standard repo) kde is working poorly. konsole doesn't work. All I get is a translucent window and frozen konsole. rm'ing .kde and logging in didn't help. icons are missing from systray. No network icon for example. Also, seems like clicking on things such as kmenu sometimes works, sometimes not. hard to see any relevant error messages in .xsession-errors (there's so much noise), /var/log/messages. Nothing in /var/log/Xorg.0.log.

All applications disappeared from the menu

Hi again, After today's update all applications completely disappeared from the menu: there's nothing there, nilch, nada, zero...(ugh, dead parrot sketch comes to mind...) Is this plasma-workspace to file a bug against? -- Dariusz

Still reproducible. JuK doesn't remember settings

KDE Connect not connecting

I'm trying to use KDE Connect to transfer files from my Samsung Galaxy S5 phone running Android 5.0 to my Lenovo T510 Fedora-23/KDE laptop This occasionally works, but not usually and not at this moment. First I click on KDE Connect on my laptop. This lists my phone, and when I click on the phone icon I'm told it is paired. But when I click on KDE Connect on my phone, my laptop is listed but underneath it says "This paired device is not reachable. Make sure it is connected to your same network." I can ping the phone from the laptop, and I can ping the laptop from the phone, using PingTools. I have opened ports 1714-1764 TCP and PDP on the laptop (which is running firewalld) with firewall-config. netstat -atun shows (among other entries) [tim@william ~]$ sudo netstat -atun tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:22 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN tcp6 0 0 :::1714 :::* LISTEN udp 0 0 0.0.0.0:67 0.0.0.0:* udp6 0 0 :::1714 :::* (I'm not sure whey 1714 is listed as tcp6 and udp6?) I'm running CentOS-7 on my home server with shorewall. Dolphin fails to delete files/folders in reasonable time and endless notification

Hi, I have seen this at least a few times. Sometimes when I delete a file/folder they don't really get deleted. A notification is created which never goes away. Please see the linked image for the notification problem. Lost kicker favorites after updating to plasma 5.5 (not sure if events are related)

Hi, after updating to plasma 5.5 today morning I lost the favorite applications lists in kicker (the K/Fedora starting button), it got empty with the exception of konsole. I am not sure if it is related with the update, and at the same time it is not annoying because if an application is favorite it should not be hard to remember. :-) I have re-added the favorites and it now works. As I said before I am not sure if the cause for disappearance of the favorites was the upgrade. Other than this issue I am an happy camper. :-) Regards, -- José Abílio

adding file type

F23 KDE spin, all patches applied. I'm having trouble adding a file type (System Settings, Applications, File Associations). The use case is to be able to click on a Commodore 64 disk image and have it come up in a Java program I wrote (this worked in previous versions). I click the Add.. button to create application/d64, then add an icon and the file extensions, and specify my program under "Application Preference Order". After clicking "Apply", I see the "updating system configuration" dialog briefly. But after closing system settings and reopening it, the new file type is nowhere to be found (and of course, clicking on a file of that type does nothing but prompt me with the "Open With" dialog). Is anybody else seeing this? kate and it's chown/chgrp drives me crazy

Hi, Just wanted to announce that kde4-fedora copr repository[1] entered permanent beta stage now. When I picked up the idea of creating kde4 repo for future versions of fedora, It started in alpha stage. Things were broken or not installing on vanilla install then. Thanks to Rex Dieter and Sergio Basto I've got it to the point where it is easily installable with one command (two if you count enabling repo) on both F22 and F23, therefore I consider that alpha stage has finished. I think beta stage will be permanent, as we will be always catching up rawhide, as well as it sort of breaks vanilla install. Consider it a sort of warning that you may need a bit more just dnf install sometimes. As before, any feature requests or bug reports, please go to issue tracker for the project, available here [2] and via copr project contact link. How to save kdiff3 configuration
