The version from plasma-5 is not offered as update, and does not get
installed with "plasma5". I'm on plasma5 otherwise, so should I install
the kwalletmanager from dvratil-plasma-5?

Plasma5 loss of configurability?
by Ed Greshko
Testing F22 RC3 I noticed a difference that has me wondering if this is just temporary....
On the current KDE in F21 one can go to "System Settings --> Common Appearance --> Locale --> Country/Region"
and separately set the format of "Numbers", "Money", "Calendar", "Date&Time" and other things such as page size.
Now, with Plasma 5 there is a "Personalization --> Formats" section but I can't seem to find a way to set the Time Format to HH:MM:SS such that AM/PM isn't displayed and I get the time in the clock in 24hr format. I could set it to UK, but being originally from the US I'm used to MM/DD/YY not DD/MM/YY as the UK has it. So, my work around is to create .bashrc settings for LC_TIME.
So, either I am missing something or the graphic tools are offer less functionality than before.

apper not showing available updates after fedup
by Ed Greshko
Hi,
A week or so ago I did a fedup from F20 to F21. I have not been informed of any available updates. In running "apper --updates" it shows "up to date" and clicking on check for updates runs in a second or two and reports no updates. Yet, "yum check-update" shows there to be quite a few available.
Suggestions on how to debug?

Sleeping mouse
by Patrick O'Callaghan
[I posted this a day or two ago on the Users list but got no replies].
I have a Bluetooth mouse (Sondstrom) which after a fairly short period
of inactivity - a minute or two - becomes unresponsive, i.e. it takes a
few seconds of jiggling for the cursor to move, whereupon it's fine
until it goes to sleep again. As far as I can tell, the mouse itself
isn't asleep (the sensor LED is still on) so I assume this is caused by
some system setting, but which? I could see the sense if I was on a
laptop, but this is a desktop machine and the power management is set to
turn off the monitor only after 30 minutes or so.
This is F21 under KDE (Plasma-5). The mouse connects via a Broadcom
Bluetooth dongle.

akonadi and baloo taking too much space on .local?
by José Abílio Matos
Hi,
today while trying to understand why the available free space on disk was getting small I decided to investigate.
The most strange (at least to me) thing was that ~/.local occupies 52 GB !
Searching in more detail I found that:
$ cd .local/share
$ du -sh * | sort -h
....................
60M local-mail
18G baloo
34G akonadi
Is this normal?
FWIW all the email accounts that I use have ~ 8 GB. and the rest of my home takes 140 GB, so I find those values a bit overboard.
What can I do to slim those gluttons? :-)
Regards,

KDE spin firewall
by Richard Z
Hi,
very belated posting...missed all the discssuions about the firewall
change for product=workstation while on vacation.
How is the KDE spin handling this? Does it inherit all the settings
from "workstation"? Will it develop its own default firewall policy?

Re: Problem with some recent update? (was Re: Korganizer Reminder Deamon Problem)
by Rex Dieter
I'd suggest testing booting into the older (non-updated kernel), in case there were driver regressions.

interesting. I am also seeing random hard to trace problems since
I updated many packages yesterday - qt and kernel among many others.
What I see:
- various image viewers (gwenview among others) crash or fail to display
larger but still reasonable size images
- occassional hangs of Firefox
Intel graphics and i686 here.

Vienna Linux Week (Linuxwoche Wien) May 7-9: Plasma 5 talk/demo?
by Kevin Kofler
Hi,
is anybody interested in showing off the shiny new Plasma 5 stuff on Fedora
at the Vienna Linux week (Thursday, May 7, 2015 to Saturday, May 9, 2015, in
Vienna, Austria)? Maybe one of the Brno folks, given the geographic
proximity? I would, but as I haven't even tried Plasma 5 yet, I'm probably
not the right person.
The Vienna Linux Week is the Vienna event of the annual Austrian Linux Weeks
(Linuxwochen), it is taking place at the Fachhochschule (FH) Technikum Wien:
http://www.linuxwochen.at/wien-anreise
There are NO conference or entrance fees, neither for speakers nor for
visitors. (Obviously, this does not include travel and accomodation. You can
check with the EMEA Ambassadors and/or with your employer whether they can
fund your travel expenses or not.)
The deadline for talk proposals is March 15, that's Sunday of this week (!).
http://www.linuxwochen.at/Wien/
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Linuxwochen_Wien_2015
Talks can be in either German or English.
I also don't know whether anybody from some other distro or from KDE
upstream is also planning to talk about Plasma 5. But from us in Fedora,
apparently not (see the wiki link above).
I submitted a talk about Calamares, let's see whether they'll accept it. But
I will be attending either way and also bringing in some hand-burned Fedora
KDE DVD+Rs to hand out.
Greetings from Vienna,
Kevin Kofler

Plasma5, ibus, and konsole
by Ed Greshko
In testing F22 I've found that I cannot enter Japanese or Chinese characters in konsole. I don't have this issue in F21 where I also use ibus. Am I missing a setting or something that needs a bugzilla?
Graphics applications, like libreoffice, are OK.
