Looking over some broken deps reports, I came across some old packages: kdebindings smokeqt smokekde qyoto (csharp/mono) kimono (csharp/mono) ruby-qt ruby-korundum perl-Qt Of these, the only one that's not a pure leaf package is perl-Qt (debconf- kde depends on it). any comment or objection to considering orphaning most (all minus smokeqt/perl-Qt) or all of these ? -- Rex

nntp (aka, usenet) client in kde?

I currently use t-bird with an nntp account pointing to gmane to read this list and sereral others. Does kde have an nntp client program of any sort? I don't see it as a possible new account type in kmail. Also, search with kpackagekit yields nothing with "usenet" or "nntp" that is kde specific. -gene

KDE and latest Fedora 24 kernel do not get along

Hi, I've used KDE for years and never had a serious issue. Yesterday (11/19) morning I did a "dnf update" and updated to the latest available patches (I do this every 2-3 weeks or so). Nothing relayed to KDE was updated as far as I could tell, but the kernel was updated from 4.8.4 to 4.8.7. Upon rebooting after the update, I got the sddm login screen as usual. I entered my name and password as usual. The KDE starting splash screen appeared as usual. After that is when the unusual happened. I got a blank screen. No panels (I have one along the bottom), no icons, no initial konsole window. Using Alt-Tab showed the konsole window but I could not bring it to the current screen. The mouse was active. I noticed a faint white line at the left edge. Clicking on it with my mouse and dragging it to the right expanded what was my konsole window. Apparently it was off screen to the left. I rebooted on the older 4.8.4 kernel and all was fine. I removed and reinstalled the 4.8.7 kernel. That did not help. (This morning a newer 4.8.8 kernel and I tried that but it behaved the same as with the 4.8.7 kernel.) Thinking that perhaps something buried in my home directory might be causing this, I created a new user. That new user had the exact same issues. I also looked in ~.xsession-errors. Nothing there that indicated any problem. Nothing in /var/log/Xorg.0.log, either. I didn't see anything in the recent archives of this list. Anyone else seen this issue? I'm out of ideas at this time. I'll keep running the older 4.8.4 kernel since that works. I'll be glad to supply any additional information anyone thinks might help. okular5 and kile beta

Dear members of the list: First, I would like to thank people making possible to use kde in Fedora. I found this unofficial repo http://compsci.cas.vanderbilt.edu/Fedora/local/ with rpm and srpm packages of okular5 and the new (beta) version of kile. Are there any plans to have these packages in Fedora? Live Preview is a very nice feature. Best, Enrique.

No KDE option when logging on on FC24 desktop

Hi All - I am switching over to a new desktop which has FC24 already installed on it. I am trying to get KDE installed and working. The first thing I tried (from the Fedora KDE wiki) was "dnf install @kde-desktop", but it said there was nothing to do: ... Last metadata expiration check: 1:49:36 ago on Mon Nov 28 09:39:00 2016. Group 'KDE' is already installed, skipping. Dependencies resolved. Nothing to do. Complete! After some googling, I then successfully did "yum groupinstall "KDE Plasma Workspaces", but there was still no KDE option in the session menu after logging out. I have tried various things since, including: yum install kdebase-workspace yum install kdm systemctl enable gdm systemctl enable kdm But the problem persists. I am admittedly shotgunning here, but I am not sure what else to do. Any help appreciated.. Thanks, Tom

Hi All - I recently got a new desktop with Fedora 24 installed, and I am trying to install/configure KDE. I tried doing "dnf install @kde-desktop" as stated on https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/KDE#Installing_KDE_Plasma_Workspaces, but it said it was already installed: dnf install @kde-desktop Last metadata expiration check: 1:49:36 ago on Mon Nov 28 09:39:00 2016. Plasma 5.8.4 lost kwallet (update to -testing on F24)

I updated to plasma 5.8.4 on F24 and everything generally seems functional. One issue I found is that I lost my kwallet -- kde insisted my kwallet password was incorrect, though I was entering the same password as before. Creating a new kwallet seems to have fixed the issue. Regards, Raman

Plasma integration for Thunderbird in F25

Hi, upgrading from F24 to F25 reverted whatever I had done to make Thunderbird integrate with plasma (I don't think this should happen at all, but that's not my problem now). Now I'm back to the default gtk icons etc in Thunderbird :-( Can someone give me a hint what to do to get the plasma icons back for thunderbird in F25? Thanks, Andreas

F24: KIO failures Plasma 5.8.3

When Plasma 5.8.3 and kf5-kio-core-5.27.0-1.fc24.x86_64 arrived into F24, I started experiencing "the process for file procotol is dead unexpectedly" error messages when opening file picker in Qt based applications. I opened bugreport [1] and then I started trying to retrieve debuginfos. I installed kdebugsettings, enabled the KIO debug messages, but I don't see any message related to the crash in both ~/.xsession-errors and journalctl. How automatic date/time setting is done on Fedora 24 KDE

Hi I have KDE on Fedora 24. I have enabled 'Set data and time automatically' in the time settings. And my clock seems to be always in sync. But I've noticed that I don't have NTP installed. DNF says that the packages ntp and ntpdate are not installed. I don't have /etc/ntp.conf either. So how is KDE managing 'automatic date/time setting'? Syam

Digital clock widget date font size in F25

I just upgraded from F23 to F25. Things look good so far, except that the font size of the date in the digital clock widget has increased to be (apparently) equal to the fonts size used to display the time. Does anyone know if this intentional? A know bug? Plasma Notes Widget (F25)

I thought I'd give the widget a try, instead of having scraps of paper all over the place. Yesterday, I thought it was just great, but now, I'm stumped... Can you only have one note!? How do you add notes and delete old notes? Sure, one could erase a note and write over it, but how about having lots of separate notes? Isn't this possible?

Apper problems

Good morning everybody Today I was testing the F25 RC-1.1, tried to install google-chrome (downloaded rpm) and apper crashed (already reported bug): https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1383747 Also, opening apper, and selecting any group results in: "A problem that we were not expecting has occurred. Please report this bug with the error description." "SearchGroups not supported by backend" https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1098735 If we want our users to install RPMs without terminal, I think it would be reasonable to include something that actually works for F26, some will hate me for this, but if nothing change before F26, we better include gnome-software. The download size for installing it is 9.2M over my F25, and this also includes flatpack. This will break our Qt purity even more, but I think plasma-discover+gnome-software is better than plasma-discover+apper. Regards Mustafa

After some recent upgrades to F24, I see a strange problem. I run in the systemd equivalent of runlevel 3 and start KDE with startx. The first time I use startx after reboot, I get my normal panel but no desktop toolbox. Clicking anywhere on the root window does nothing even though mouse actions are defined for that. If I then logout and start KDE again, I get a normal looking desktop except that no panel is visible. The desktop toolbox is present and root window actions work as they should. The scenario is repeated for all subsequent startx calls until the next boot. On one occasion, I manually added a second panel while in the second scenario (even though I couldn't see the first panel). The second panel also did not appear but the desktop toolbox went away and root window clicks became inactive. After the next boot, both panels were visible, the desktop toolbox was not visible, and the root window clicks were inactive. Any ideas? Is this known or do I need to open a bug report (I didn't see one that seemed to match). -- Dave Close

Hi, Fortunately, I was able to resolve this problem today with - the upgrade to Plasma 5.8.2 (from copr repo 'group_kdesig-plasma-5-unstable') and KDE Frameworks 5.27.0 (from repo 'updates') - system fully upgraded today - combined with a cleanup of Plasma configuration files -- see below. This resulted in clean (almost empty) desktop containments with fresh wallpapers (one on LVDS, the other on the external monitor) and one (default) panel placed on the primary display. After this cleanup, adding an application to Desktop creates an icon on each desktop containment. Application icons are consistent in size and nicely aligned; moreover, their position can be adjusted separately on each desktop containment. I should add that this cleanup causes plasmashell to create (default) desktop containments with Layout = Folder View rather than Layout = Desktop which I had before. So the nice behavior with application icons can be attributed to the Folder View layout (you can see the layout by right clicking the desktop > Desktop Settings > Wallpaper). Icons added to Folder View layout are visible on each screen; they are not shown when you convert the layout to Desktop but reappear when you go back to Folder View. Icons added to Desktop layout are visible only on the screen to which they are added; otoh, they are also shown when the layout is switched to Folder View. I really think my previous Plasma config files were corrupted: The file ~/.config/plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc contained - 3 containments of type org.kde.desktopcontainment, with references to lastScreen=0, 1, and 2, even though I'm using two screens only. - 2 containments of type org.kde.panel and 2 containments of type org.kde.plasma.private.systemtray but only one panel (and systemtray) was shown. KMail not working (again)

When I start KMail I get gobbledygook in the Message window. When I run "sudo akonadictl restart" I am told akonadi is not running.
