nntp (aka, usenet) client in kde?
by Gene Smith
I currently use t-bird with an nntp account pointing to gmane to read
this list and sereral others. Does kde have an nntp client program of
any sort? I don't see it as a possible new account type in kmail. Also,
search with kpackagekit yields nothing with "usenet" or "nntp" that is
kde specific.

I am considering finally EOL'ing kdm in time for fedora 24, anyone still
interested in keeping it alive?

kde buggy, trying out cinnamon
by Neal Becker
I'm finding kde has become too buggy. Frustrations are:
1. windows don't respect panel, fullscreen windows will go under the panel.
2. power management has become very flaky. When on battery, configuration
is to dim, and after some time suspend. screen does dim (totally!), but
does not respond when keys/mouse touched. Instead, only Fn+f6 will turn on
the screen. Suspend seems to have broken.
3. screenlock is configured to activate after 10 minutes. It has stopped
working (never activates).
So I decided to try cinnamon. It seems much less buggy. Almost perfect in
most respects, although I don't like that I can't see all the apps on all
the workspaces in the taskbar, as in kde. Makes switching a lot less
pleasant. Power management seems to work fine.
But cinnamon seems to have a deal-breaking issue for me. The fonts on KDE
look much better. I can't understand why.
I do have this .fonts.conf:
<?xml version='1.0'?>
<!DOCTYPE fontconfig SYSTEM 'fonts.dtd'>
<fontconfig>
<match target="pattern">
<edit name="dpi" mode="assign">96</edit>

digikam5 geotagging
by Chris Rouch
I'm running a beta of digikam5 under fedora 23. Previously with digikam4
there was a geotagging option under the Image menu. In digikam5 the Image
menu has become the Item menu, but the geotagging option is no longer there.
Has it moved somewhere else, or is it not implemented yet?

f24 kde spin: consider disabling session management by default
by Rex Dieter
Given that session management is still largely a work-in-progress and is
(imo) far from something that "just works" (1). I'd like the kde-sig to
consider disabling session management by default in f24.
The details being that we'd likely effectively set
systemsettings5-> startup&shutdown -> session management -> "start with
empty session"
(or possibly "restore manually saved session")
rather than default "Restore previous session"
I suggest this because I feel that default-enabled features should give
users the expectation that they actually work.
-- Rex
(1) there are a fair number of outstanding issues, and many unsolved bugs
(though many of them may be dups). I can dig up details and references if
needed. That said, I'd rather not discuss the details of what is broken in
this thread, but hopefully establish the fact that session management is far
from working as expected.
