nntp (aka, usenet) client in kde?

I currently use t-bird with an nntp account pointing to gmane to read this list and sereral others. Does kde have an nntp client program of any sort? I don't see it as a possible new account type in kmail. Also, search with kpackagekit yields nothing with "usenet" or "nntp" that is kde specific. -gene

session restore broken?

In the not-too-distant past, a xorg-x11-drv-intel update reverted back to default dri2 because dri3 was to unstable and too-often resulted in plasmashell freezes, see also: https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2015-8616 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1223477 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1223477 A new update came this past week turning dri3 back on, https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2016-606ca05253 Please help test this if you are able. For *me*, it's pretty good, but I've now experienced at least 3 plasmashell deadlocks (when left idle and screen off) similar to past results when using dri3. And... oddly, chrome seems to freeze similar to plasmashell sometimes too. -- Rex

copyq - qt based advanced clipboard manager

I just pushed a new testing update out to bodhi on this and realized that I may not have advised folks that copyq is available in the fedora repos. For those of you who are unfamiliar with it here is a link to a recent review article: http://goo.gl/1oMjHv It requires qt5 and has remarkable set of options. The project is active and updates are pushed in a timely manner. The one criticism I've seen is that it is "too advanced" and people get lost in the options. That really isn't the case. If you use the vanilla setup, it works just like any other clipboard manager. The advantage is if you want to do some neat things with your clipboard data, copyq will help you do it easily. Of course, if you want to play around, you need to RTFM. For those who like eye candy, the system area icon is animated and the scissors will "cut" when you clip something for the clipboard. Enjoy!

ssh-agent emulation in gpg-agent stopped working

Hello everyone, i'm managing my ssh key password with the ssh-agent emulation using gpg-agent which stopped working recently. When i ssh some machine the output is Enter passphrase for key '/home/user/.ssh/id_rsa': instead of pinentry-qt popping up asking for my password and i have to retype the password every time. /etc/kde/env/gpg-agent-startup.sh is started automatically on login and here is my gpg-agent config file: ~/.gnupg/gpg-agent.conf: default-cache-ttl 36000 pinentry-program /usr/bin/pinentry-qt enable-ssh-support allow-loopback-pinentry Anyone running into the same troubles? Some hint to alternatives would also be appreciated. Best wishes Michael

Kmail Won't Start

All of a sudden, Kmail will not start. I get this error: The Email program encountered a fatal error and will terminate now. Plasma 5.7.1 issues

Since upgrade to Plasma 5.7.1, I have a bunch of new issues: - I am unable to assign a shortcut to my application launcher. It simply is not saved any more. No related errors in .xsession-errors. - I am unable to get my screens to go to standby mode. Changing power settings does not help. Even setting standby manually with `xset` does not work any more (radeonsi driver). - Every second or so, 5 duplicate lines (10 lines total) are written to .xsession-errors: kde.systemtray: Wrong IconThemePath "/usr/share/pixmaps/pidgin/tray" : too short or does not end with 'icons' kde.systemtray: Wrong IconThemePath "/home/raman/.local/share/icons:/home/raman/.icons:/usr/share/kde-settings/kde-profile/default/share/icons:/usr/local/share/icons:/usr/share/icons:/usr/share/kde-settings/kde-profile/default/share/pixmaps:/usr/local/share/pixmaps:/usr/share/pixmaps" : too short or does not end with 'icons' All of these issues when upgrading KDE (even relatively minor updates like 5.6 to 5.7) are certainly frustrating. Fedora/KDE boot graphics

Am I alone in finding what I see on the screen when re-booting very drab, and much inferior to what Fedora/KDE used to provide? Is it possible to choose a more interesting non-default setup? I find the slowly filling horizontal line under the K icon particularly boring; it makes the Microsoft rotating circle seem like an exciting entry into the Windows world. In older versions of Fedora/KDE various icons used to appear in order, showing what was happening at that moment during the re-boot. selinux errors when selinux is disabled?

New audio issues on 5.7.1

I have a new audio issue with KDE on 5.7.1 which is a regression from 5.6.5. I have created this bug on the KDE tracker for this: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=366149. Is there a workaround for this? Copy of the bug report follows: I have an Intel-HDA card with PulseAudio 7.1.1 on Fedora 23. My card is hooked up to both my external speakers as well as a headset. I can switch the audio from headset to speakers by using the commands: ``` pactl set-card-profile alsa_card.pci-0000_00_1b.0 output:analog-surround-40+input:analog-stereo pactl set-sink-port alsa_output.pci-0000_00_1b.0.analog-surround-40 analog-output-lineout amixer -c $CARD sset "Auto-Mute Mode" Disabled amixer -c $CARD sset 'Headphone',1 100 mute ``` and vice-versa: ``` pactl set-card-profile alsa_card.pci-0000_00_1b.0 output:analog-stereo+input:analog-stereo pactl set-sink-port alsa_output.pci-0000_00_1b.0.analog-stereo analog-output-headphones amixer -c $CARD sset "Auto-Mute Mode" Enabled amixer -c $CARD sset 'Headphone',1 100 unmute ``` As of Plasma 5.7.1, the above commands still work, but KDE seems to lose its connection to PulseAudio when they are run. In `.xsession-errors`, immediately upon the switch I see: org.kde.plasma.pulseaudio: No object for name "alsa_output.pci-0000_00_1b.0.analog-surround-40" After that point, I cannot, use the volume up/down/mute keys successfully. Though moving the sliders in the pulse-pa applet does still work. A restart of plasma restores the connection to pulseaudio and restores the up/down/mute key functionality. Regards, Raman

Latest KDE updates -- WTF happened?

I just updated my F24 box and there were apparently a bunch of KDE related updates. (Not sure which, exactly.) When I rebooted (because bloody plasmashell was taking 80% CPU, again) the interface is all jacked up. For example, what's with the little button next to the program icon in the upper left hand corner? It appears to do absolutely nothing when I click it. Also, why does the text in the title bar of a window (like Chrome) that's not in focus looked all greyed out and illegible? kwrite "show scrollbar mini-map"

I just applied the most recent patches on F24 KDE, and everything seems groovy except for kwrite: in the main menu, View / Borders / Show Scrollbar Mini-Map is always on, even after I turn it off. Akonadi and slow start

Hello. For a long time (Plasma 5) I have noticed that if use akonadi, the startup time is markedly increased. I read a lot about this problem, but working solution I haven't found. Is there a way to use akonadi without effect a slow start?

Hello this is a Fedota24 fully dnf updated This was Fedora14 and then I upgraded always the same box. After last upgrade 23->24, I lost my note (I had only one note) of KNotes. The first time i run KNotes after upgrade I got a full black window. Now yesterday I tried to fix it and I setup yellow background, but my note was vanished I read this https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=333640 but I haven't knotesmigrator Can I convert the files containing my old note .kde/share/apps/knotes/notes.ics in a plain text files? I could read it with kate and so I could be operative best regards

KDE Handbooks

KMail and Kontact do not seem to provide their Handbooks on my laptop (Fedora-24/KDE), although they are available online. Can I find a Fedora package or RPM with the Handbooks? Alternatively, where exactly are the KDE Handbooks stored? I have the KNode Handbook on the laptop, but couldn't find where it is kept. ("lsof | grep -ir knode" found nothing, with the Handbook open. Is there a way of finding out where a page one is looking at is stored?) KSystemLog

What can I have broken that means I can't edit any settings in KsystemLog? At the moment I want to change settings for the Cron Log (it shows nothing even though the file is filling up, so I imagine I must turn off "Enable process filtering) and the files to scan for the mail log. All the dialogues are there, but the "OK" button is always grey. This is the case on both my F22 and my F24 installations. It is still the case if I start it from the CLI when logged in as root, although it always asks me to validate as root anyway.

Show launcher when not running - Broken?

I've updated to the latest in kde-testing. I run "libreoffice" and then right click on the instance in the panel and pick "Show a launcher when not running". I then exit "libreoffice" and sure enough a launcher appears on the panel. I click on the launcher and liberoffice starts and then I exit and the launcher reappears. However, if I click on the launcher and then select one of the calc documents that are displayed the calc document is brought up but the launcher does not return to the panel. Previously, when a calc or writer document is selected the launcher reappears. The only way to get the launcher back on the panel is to start it again from the command line. Is anyone else seeing this? Seems like a bug, but don't know what component to file against. -- You're Welcome Zachary Quinto

When I hover over a tool in the GIMP toolbox, the text is almost completely invisible (very light grey on slightly darker grey). Is there a way to fix this? The regular menus (in the image edit window) are fine. Fedora 24, all patches applied. GNOME application style set to Adwaita for both GTK2 and GTK3. P.S. When I click "Get New Themes" and "Download GTKx themes..." in system settings for GNOME application style, I get a "Get Hot New Stuff" dialog with a progress circle and "Initializing" in the lower left corner... and nothing else. Icons in the systray in moved panel got bigger. I guess this is because left monitor has lower resolution and systray icons should be scaled accordingly but apparently they were not. I have been updating a laptop from kde-testing and everything has been going well. So, today I decided to also update from kde-testing on a desktop system with dual monitors. Everything is working but the icons for Bluetooth, NetworkManager, firewalld-applet, etc in the systray are now at least half the size they once were. The clock appears OK. How does one adjust the size of those icons? I tried making changes in "System Settings--->Appearance--->Icons--->Advanced" with no effect. -- You're Welcome Zachary Quinto

Merging packagekit and dnf history?

Most of the time I use dnf for updates. But sometimes I click on the software updates icon in the systray which utilizes packagekit. I know it is best to stick with one method.....but.... Today day I did an update and many qt5 packages were updated. As I always do after an update I ran "tracer" to see if a session restart is suggested. In this case it wasn't and I continued on. Throughout the day I didn't start any new applications and everything hummed along just fine. It wasn't until later in the day that I brought up ktorrent. It failed when trying to select the destination directory for a torrent I wanted to download. Gave an error message saying a "protocol" failed and the dialog box that normally shows the directory structure was blank. Anyway, I guess "tracer" can't detect when applications starting in the future will "fail" due to updates. But is there anyway, other than making it a SOP to restart one's session, to inform users that they should logout/login? -- You're Welcome Zachary Quinto

I'm trying to use my (KDE plasma) fedora from a win10 machine with xrdp. I basically followed https://gist.github.com/bcambl/ff17eae67863eda34c24 . From http://bullcreekstudio.com/commentary/start-remote-xrdp-session-mate-debian… it seems to be clear that starting a KDE session is only a matter of $ ls -l ~/.Xclients -rwx--x--x. 1 tpasch tpasch 9 12. Jul 12:53 .Xclients $ cat ~/.Xclients startkde However, when logging in I see a KDE load screen, but the connection is aborted before the real plasma desktop. Why is oxygen-icon-theme retired?

Hi all, today a got some mails of broken dependencies in Rawhide, for example quassel: quassel has broken dependencies in the rawhide tree: On x86_64: quassel-0.12.4-1.fc25.x86_64 requires oxygen-icon-theme On i386: quassel-0.12.4-1.fc25.i686 requires oxygen-icon-theme On armhfp: quassel-0.12.4-1.fc25.armv7hl requires oxygen-icon-theme Please resolve this as soon as possible. Reason: oxygen-icon-theme was retired. What is the reason for this? And what is the suggested fix for packages using it? Greetings, Christian

Proposing QupZilla as default browser for Fedora 25+

Hi all, as we have QupZilla 2 in Fedora 24, which uses QtWebEngine (based on Chromiums rendering engine) and everything works very well here, I'll propose it as the new default browser starting with Fedora 25. We already have it in Fedora 24 spin as a preview (be sure to update to 2.0.1 before using it), but the default is Firefox right now. Some features: * Qt5 based => Integrates perfectly in Plasma * Able to use KWallet (we have to add package qupzilla-kwallet to spin) * Adblocker included Even though Fedora QtWebEngine is shipped without proprietiary or patented codecs, most stuff like Youtube just works fine. It is also possible to replase QtWebEngine by a self-compiled one with all codecs without rebuild of QupZilla (maybe an option for rpmfusion?), then almost all pages work (not the ones using Flash, it is possible to use Chrome Flash Plugin). I know many use Firefox and are also power users of this browser. My intention is to bring new users a well integrated experience of Plasma and for most users QupZilla will be fine. Of course people who prefer another browser like Firefox can install it after installation ;) What are your opinions? Greetings, Christian

Sound hardware support

It happened on reboot after regular update of Rawhide this morning: No more audio output than dummy - on a system I installed a four days ago and till today having been working noby to describe than excellently evenly together with a lot of proprietary driven periphery (Eaton UPS, Canon colour laser demanding UFRII printer language, Epson photo scanner, WebPAMPRO-managed SAS-RAID with PMC Sierra chip)! I could just recognize a somehow cryptic info on the later shutdown screen that reported system's difficulties with interrupt 16. My machine is a self-assembled one with a FX6300 on an original (no R2) Sabertooth FX990 just operating the inbuilt Realtek sound chip ALC892 only connected for analog stereo output - nothing that exotic I think. Another bug within that is the reaction to the reboot button in Plasma suddenly just acting as logout so afterwords on login screen I had to call reboot once more. As I have read in Fedora forums there seem to appear sudden problems with audio on former editions of Fedora (at least on V.24), too, and few month ago though happened on a kernel older a lot I littered Centos because of quite a similar event. But especially with KDE I see Fedora 25 presenting itself the very best OS I've ever tried out, so I don' want to miss it and I hope for tomorrow morning's or at least one of the next updates getting that fault corrected. I couldn't find out how to report a bug more directly towards Rawhide's maintainers but i strongly hope for finding this message it's best way ,,,

Akregator selection problem

Anybody using Akregator here? https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=365276 There's something wrong with how items in the feeds list widget and article list widgets are selected. If the search text box has focus, clicking on an article title does not shift the focus to the list widget. So trying to delete an article does not work if the search text widget has focus. You have to first click somewhere on the preview pane to shift focus out of the text widget and only then does Delete key work. Anybody else seeing this? As far as I know, this problem started with F24. Things used to be OK with F23 version of Akregator. Syam

KDE missing icons after last update

Dear all, I'm running fedora 23 with KDE and plasma. After my last update to the plasma system some of the icons have disappeared from my panel (the app is still there). I lost: - the one for the trashcan (the Trash applet) - some of the icons in the system tray (the software update, i.e., the green shield) - the one for the comics app - and the favicons in the konsole tabs How can I restore them? I've looked at the settings of the various applications but none is about the icon to show. Thanks a lot Walter --

After a recent update (within last 2 days), now when I wakeup from suspend with 2 screens, unlock the screenlocker (password typing is not echoed either), the external screen is unlocked, but the locker persists to be displayed on the laptop screen.

Phonon device list clean up.

While setting up a new computer, I was experimenting with the various USB sound device setting to get it to work properly. Now I have lists of 10 or 12 devices when there are only three. (HDMI, Internal and USB) How do I clean up this list so it isn't so confusing? It has already caused problems while configuring an app and picking the wrong sound device configuration. I have searched for the configuration file or device file that would have this list in it (different for a different account) so it must be a local file. Robin

Is anyone else sick and tired of plasmashell pegging their systems? I swear, I though this was fixed in F23, but it's back in early F24. I love KDE and prefer it over the abortion that is GNOME, but this is just getting stupid. I can't run Chrome, Slack and Thunderbird at the same time without crippling my quad core 3GHZ 12GB RAM laptop. K icon in panel mis-figured

I'm running Fedora-24/KDE on my laptop (and have been for some time). In the last day or two, the K-icon (Application Launcher) in my panel has been replaced by something strange - as I see it, there are 3 dots on the left, and an arrow-head on the right. Is this intended? If so, what is it meant to represent? Dracut initqueue timeout on Fedora 24

Hi, I have created a bootable USB of Fedora 24 KDE (downloaded from https://torrents.fedoraproject.org/ ), and when I try to start a live session the screen freezes for a minute or so, and then it displays "dracut initqueue timeout" a number of times, then it opens the dracut prompt. When I exit from that prompt the boot process is stuck and I am not able to start the session. Is there a workaround for this? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Hi, I am one of the owncloud-client package maintainers. I am writing to you to ask if you would like to test owncloud-client-dolphin (the Owncloud's Dolphin integration) of the following update https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2016-81d461b384 I need some feedbacks because in 2.2.0 version, during the test of the "just implemented" integration (thank you Rex Dieter for your help), I experienced a little problem: when you have such client active and connected, you can see Dolphin slowing down in showing folders that contains many subfolders. I am going to test the new 2.2.2, and if I will experience this problem again, before alerting upstream developers, I would like to have feedbacks from other Plasma users.
