I usually start by running /usr/bin/pavucontrol and also kcmshell5
kcm_pulseaudio (/usr/bin/systemsettings5 + sound) and look for output
/ playback devices
Note: I'm running Fedora 33 completely updated. It's an
installation that I have upgraded over the years.
Laptop is a Lenovo C740 with a dock through the USB interface.
sound output to amplifier is taken on the dock.
