This could be one of the dumbest questions I've ever asked, but...
It shouldn't take hours and hours to add and switch kde language settings in
System Settings -> Regional & Languages -> Locale -> Add Language
should it? I had to cancel and then restore .kde from backup to get things working again.
Remember to backup .kde if you're going to try this.
If this behavior is confirmed, then I will file a bug report
Thanks

Another one from me:
Why did my HOME button (on the keyboard, next to INSERT) stop working with KDE4.2? Switching the keyboard layout doesn't help at all. My HOME button works in tty but not in KDE4.2

Check your keyboard type in systemsettings, it should be set to "evdev managed keyboard".

I don't know where to set the "evdev managed keyboard". But I remembered that we had a "system-config-keyboard". That one showed "Arabic (azerty)" for some reason. I corrected that and now my HOME button is working again.
Why doesn't system-settings override what system-config-keyboard sets?

Because you have "use keyboard layouts" disabled, most likely.

No I never disabled it. For some reason it was not being honored. Indeed I need to use different country layouts sometimes. I also train myself to use Dvorak. They say it is much more efficient than QWERT

Sounds as if something crashed with the process part-done. Can anyone say whether they have successfully added a language, or had a problem with it?
