For some time I have been having difficulties with the KDE clipboard.
For example: if I select text in a Konsole session, right click and select copy, the selected text rarely shows up in the clipboard list. When it does show up, it is NEVER selected. As a matter of fact, if it does get added to the clipboard, it shows up in the second line, with the top line blank. When I do see the "copied" text and click on it, it never get selected selected the first time, and often not on the second or third attempt.
This seems to have gotten worse in the last month or so, to the point that cut&paste isn't any fun anymore.
Any ideas on where to look to to discover what is going on?
On Fedora 21 fully updated, with lots of hardware.
Emmett
Hi,
I am assuming you are running kde 4.

I posted a similar problem here a few weeks ago regarding Klipper's actions that have stopped working for me also in the past few months. Sadly no replies so I guess no is able to reproduce the problems or are Plasma-5
I have searched on kde.bugs but no luck as yet, I'll keep looking though.

Yes, KDE4. I am not going to switch to 5 until I get used to the idea that the pager cannot switch activities.
I could not find anything about this issue either. At least with your response I know it isn't only me.
This has been happening for a couple of months, and only now got so bad I thought I'd ask around. It is now seriously impacting my productivity.

There is a Qt based alternative to Klipper you might try called CopyQ. Here is a write-up: http://www.linux-magazine.com/Issues/2013/154/CopyQ
I didn't encounter any issues with Klipper on kde4. I previously used Klipper quite a bit, but now I've switched to CopyQ... it has a few more bells and whistles.
Worth a shot, at least until whatever the issue you're experiencing with Klipper is resolved; and who knows, you may also find you like it better.
It's also available in the Fedora repository: dnf install copyq
In F21 it uses Qt4, in F22 and onwards it uses Qt5.

Thanks, I'll give it a try. Still would like to find out why the KDE clipboard is so dysfunctional. Seems like it is missing copy and mouse events.

Using CopyQ didn't help. At least it didn't help getting selected and copied text into the clipboard. Sometimes it takes three or more attemtps before I see it in the CopyQ list. Even when the copied text does show up in the list, it is not always pasted, and I have to explicitly select it, but I am not sure if that is how it is supposed to work, because the docs seems to indicate I need to always select what to paste.
It also seems to miss clipboard list selection clicks, double clicks.
So I still have an issue.
Can someone please point me to where I can look to discover the problem? Is it dbus, or some other internal KDE message system that is failing?

Emmett, I'm on F22 now, but can you give an example of exactly what you are doing, step by step. I typically use the clipboard with web browsers (Chrome, Firefox), but also use it with Konsole and have never encountered the issue you are describing. I'd like to try to re-create if possible.

Sorry, just re-read your first note...
FYI... You can open the copyq window while you do the actions and you can see it populate the clipboard.
I just tried the above and I cannot get it to fail, it is working correct every time.
Have you tried highlighting and then click on Edit, Copy instead of the right click? The right click should also work, but worth a shot.

Oh, and what editor are you using to access the file? When I was testing, I was using VIM.

I also tested using whatever was in the Konsole display, couldn't recreate. Have you tried from a web browser? From another console, Terminal or qterminal? Trying to narrow down whether it is the clipboard of Konsole you're having issues with.

It doesn't matter where I copy from, Konsole, Firefox, Chrome, Kwrite, VNC viewer, spicy, and others.
One other thing I've noticed recently, once in a while, when I've clicked on an item in the clipboard, hoping to make it the item to paste, the clipboard locks up. It eventually recovers. I haven't seen this with CopyQ.

Emmett, You mentioned you've been having this problem for some time... do you recall when it started happening? In the meantime, I'll ask CopyQ upstream if they have ever heard of such a thing... and see if they have any suggestions for debugging...

It has been for a few months. At first,it happened only rarely, and I though it might be my keyboard. Mostly because I would hit the shift-delete keys combo in an editor, the when I attempted to shift-insert, Nothing was pasted. Then when I went back to the line where I deleted (cut) I had to hit ctrl-Z to get the line back then shift-delete to cut the line. When it first started happening, that was all it would take, and it didn't happen all that often.
So I switched keyboards, and that didn't make it any better.
Now it happens virtually every time I try to cut or copy text in any application. It doesn't show up in the clipboard, CopyQ or Klipper.
A am loosing productivity.
I may have to move to Fedora 22 sooner that I wanted. But still, I would very much like to know the cause of this, especially as I seem to be the only one with this issue.
Next stop, bugzilla.

"I remember that quite some time ago I had similar problems when setting or getting clipboard content too often. So maybe there is some other app that misbehaves. This can easily happen if there are more clipboard managers and they try to synchronize clipboard and X11 selection (they're fighting to change the clipboard)."

Well, since my last reply. I installed Fedora 22, Then reinstalled Fedora 21 two days later. KDE5 is not ready for prime time.
Now I have a brand new Fedora workstation, with all new home directory, so nothing is left of the previous KDE installation.
At first, the clipboard worked. That made it all worth the pain. But alas, it didn't stay that way. The clipboard on this new installation is now just as messed up as when I first started this thread.
I believe that you must be right that some other app is messing things up. But I have NO idea how to go about discovering what that might be.
Does anybody know where to find docs on the clipboard and it operation details? I don't even know what kind of action in plasma that hooks the clipboard.
Note that this issue is in no way related to "too often". It it fails to copy even tow ot three hours after the last time I tried. Even the first time I try to copy something when I first start my workday.

I too have installed Fedora 22 KDE version and the clipboard always worked as expected for me. Same with F21 too. I never had to meddle with Klipper settings. It must be some other app that messing up the settigns for you.

That last suggestion about interference from another app, was the clue I needed. Turn's out it was Tiger vnc's vncviewer. I seem to have fixed it by adding -SendPrimary=0 to all vncviewer calls. I will probably also add the parameter to each server's start up parameters as well.
Note that I usually have at least tree remote desktops open at many one time. I will file a bug report on tiger vnc as soon as I am sure this resolves the issue.
