Is kmail no longer part of KDE under CentOS-7?
Actually, I only want to run KDE under CentOS
in order to create a top-level folder.
I run kmail on my Fedora-21 laptop,
collecting mail from dovecot on my server,
which is running under CentOS-7.
I have another server running under CentOS-6.6,
and I am able to create a top-level folder on that,
for use with KMail on my Fedora laptop.
Is there another way of creating a top-level kmail folder
on my Fedora laptop?

ship QtWebKit -- probably because of security reasons.
KMail's message viewer was ported from KHTML to QtWebKit a several releases
ago.

I've added Dieter's repo to /etc/yum.repos
and installed 150 or so packages from it,
including kmail.
I haven't quite succeeded at the moment,
as running kmail causes an akonadi test, which fails.
I'm trying to work out why this occurs.
Incidentally, I'm only trying to install kmail on my home server
in order to add top-level folders to kmail on my laptop.
(I know from another server running CentOS-6 that this works.)
But there must be simpler ways of adding a top-level folder,
eg by editing ~/Maildir/subscriptions ?

why would one need a graphical UI on a server to add folders via IMAP?
just add the folder on the IMAP server, subsribe to it and you are done

'add to the file "subscriptions" in ~/Maildir/'?

if kmail can't crete a folder and subscribe to it why call kmail a MUA -
not that i really believe that this is the truth - see me previous

I found both of these completely useless.

I looked at the first 10 responses to the first google query,
and none of them referred to KMail at all.
Also, I'm not sure what you mean by "mangle around on the server",

Just to repeat my query: one cannot add a top-level folder
in the current version of KMail, as one could in some older versions.
If I simply add a folder to ~/Maildir/ on my server
it does not appear in KMail on my laptop.

Just to repeat my query: one cannot add a top-level folder
in the current version of KMail, as one could in some older versions
than just connect with *whatever* IMAP client from your workstation to
your account and add it with that but why in the world would anybody
install a graphical mail cient on a server for just add a folder

*still is using IMAP* and don't touch files and folders on a mailserver
directly for good reasons
to be honest: the better question is why not throw away kmail at all if
it is lacking such basic functionality? the last time i tried using it
on a livecd it displayed mails multiple times and unlickly by remove the
appearant copies it killed also the real messages
If I simply add a folder to ~/Maildir/ on my server
it does not appear in KMail on my laptop
hence i said: "don't mangle around on the server"
