I was wondering if there was a way to put a custom field into an address book contact to allow html emails, and then have kmail recognise this and allow html emails to be shown in the preview window?

I think that what you're asking for is a way to send email to specific contacts in HTML? As far as I'm aware, there is no such functionality. This is the reverse of a long-standing wish-list item to have emails from certain people display if it comes in as an HTML. I think you'll have to go to bugzilla and enter a new wishlist item.

I actually meant having it show html *from* that particular contact, but as you stated in the latter part of your email it appears to be a long standing wish list item.
Oh well, thanks for your response, I'll go and express my wishes to them directly.

In KMail 1 it's possible to set folders to display html, so you could achieve what you want by filtering such mail into designated folders. I know that more html support is planned for KMail 2 but I don't know how far it has got.

Really??? I didn't know that was possible on a folder-by-folder basis! I think it would also be neat to be able to specify on a recpient-by- recipient basis whether to send in HTML/Rich-Text or plain-text, but not worth putting in a request for. :D

Somewhat confusingly, the option is in the top-menu Folder item, not in the context menu. I have two folders which allow html, one for mail from trusted companies, and one for embroidery-related subject, which often need to include images and are usually html formatted.
