I see that after updates. It helps here to switch to fullscreen-mode
once and the video appears. You can then switch back to the smaller
size as well.

Yes, this has been the case with f13/kde-redhat-unstable/kaffeine for a few months.

The solution: switch to the playlist tab (tabs on the left side, if using default setup), then switch back to the playback tab and video appears.
