For some months (if not years) some action of mine - maybe moving the cursor near an edge of the screen - causes the window to be minimized, and I have to press the Restore button in the top right corner to get things back where they were.
This is particularly annoying when playing KPatience, when the card one is clicking suddenly moves to the other end of the screen.
Is there any way of avoiding this misbehaviour?

No that is for maximization.
Tim's problem as far as I understood is with window size change (usually a minimization).
Talking with Nuno Pinheiro (the guy behind Oxygen) he told me that this behaviour is a bug in the application. I saw it also in other games and in kontact (4.4.x).
What happens is that now if you press the left button in any area that is not editable (or equivalent) you should be able to move a window while before this was only possible pressing Alt.
So in short this is a bug in the application where this happens, please report it.

Not quite....
When you click on one of the edges in the setting selection you have a list of choices. It may also depend on what animations enabled... But, on my system I have the choice of....
Show Dashboard Show Desktop Present Windows - All Desktops Present Windows - Current Desktop Desktop Grid Desktop Cube - Cube Desktop Cube - Cylinder Desktop Cube - Sphere
So, maybe "Show Desktop" is what is happening and being described as "minimized"?
It is unclear to me....so checking the settings may well be in order.

I use Kpat/Spider very frequently. Certainly I accidentally drag the window from time to time, but I've never had it minimise. How odd!

Thanks for your response. But I did check those settings (after reading your post) and it doesn't seem to cure my problem.
I have all 8 corners and mid-points set to No Action.
Check the settings in System Settings > Workspace Behaviour > Screen Edges
The minimization always occurs if I press the left button on a blank place on the screen for more than a quarter second (or so). But I think it also takes place at various unpredicatable occasions also.

I have checked, and all 8 locations are set to No Action.
The choices I have are actually
No Action Show Dashboard Show Desktop Lock Screen Prevent Screen Locking
(There are others, but they are greyed out.

When I play the same action results in the window being dragged.
Could the difference be that the default in my case is a small window? The window (in my case) is minimized if I just press the left button, without touching the pointer; so it seems to be independent of dragging.
As someone (possible you) pointed out, the window is maximized again if it is moved to the top of the screen, which makes it less annoying.
But it is probably a good thing to prevent me wasting more time on games. Incidentally, the KPatience I was playing was Klondike, in case that is relevant, from kdegames-4.5.5-1.fc13.i686 . (I'm not sure why it is fc13, as I am running Fedora-14, and I update every day.)

I doubt it, as I use only a smallish window as well.

The problem I see is when I am about to drag a card, and I mis-judge the reach before pressing the mouse button, so it's probably totally unrelated to you problem.

That may be relevant. I think the games are individually programmed.

Here I have kdegames-4.6.2-1.fc14.i686 - and that's probably the version on my laptop, that I use when at home. OTOH, I have never seen your problem in earlier veersions either. It seems to point to the actual game, to me. Out of curiosity, could you see whether the same thing happens in another game? As I admitted earlier, I'm addicted to Spider and virtually never play any other.

I would suggest, as a viable workaround, to switch from KPatience to Pysol ( http://pysolfc.sourceforge.net/ ). The current version includes over 1000 different solitaire games (1061 to be exact), and in my FC14 it doesn't show any misbehavior, except an annoying music when you play, which however can easily be disabled.

I'm afraid I have exactly the same experience with Spider - pressing the left button when on a card-free part of the screen causes minimization.
Incidentally, why does "yum upgrade" not take me to kdegames...fc14.i686 from 6:kdegames-4.5.5-1.fc13.i686 ? Is it because I ran preupgrade to go from Fedora-13 to Fedora-14?
(Spider seems much more complicated the Klondike to me, and evidently attracts the more intellectual Federalists.)
