Hi Ronnie,
I have never been in such keyboard freeze situation before, I really feel
sorry. If you cannot get logged in to the text-only mode, there is nothing
I can do for you. Most maintenance jobs are done in text-only mode with
root privilege. If that is a bug, we can do nothing but wait until someone
fix this bug.
Best,
Q.

Hi Qingwei,****
Man, I have made attempt after attempt at this. I read the
instructions particularly #4 and followed them. When the GRUB screen
appears, I press ‘e’ key and scroll down per the instructions and edit in
the “3” in the line. Most often the keyboard will freeze and I can do
nothing. So, I reboot and attempt the same procedure. However, I cannot
get in far enough to get a terminal to establish root and complete the
task. I hope I have been clear in my explanation. --RJ****

Hi Ronnie,****

It is ok to know less about runlevels concept in Linux. Here is a brief
tutorial page about Fedora basic FAQ,
http://www.fedorafaq.org/basics/,
and you may need to take a look at it, now you just need to read the
question 4 and 5. Then you will know how to edit boot stanzas in GRUB and
enter the text-only mode.****
** **
After you enter the text-only mode, use yum group install command to
install both "GNOME desktop environment" and "KDE desktop
environment".
Let me know what you done this. ****

Good luck. ****

I guess I must declare my ignorance and confess that I do not know
what “runlevel 3” means. I see the sign in window and able to click on my
name and submit my pass word. There are about 5 options to select from
dropdown of “session.” But, that’s as far as it goes before I see a blank
screen with “Fedora” and logo at bottom of the screen. I just do not know
what to do from there. Thanks, RJ****

Hi Ronnie ,****
There are something similar happened at my laptop. What i did is , reboot
the system and enter the command line interface , (i.e ., runlevel 3,) and
use yum group install command to install both gnome and KDE desktop
environment , then reboot again , and things go well. ****
I am not sure whether it is an installation bug or not, but it worth a try.

Greetings,****
I followed your instructions and ran the “sudo fedup-cli –network 19”
and it downloaded. Then, I went through the install process remembering
your saying to me that it took probably overnight. I waited over 24 hours
watching a screen with a blue background and the date and time digitally.
So, I rebooted and the flash screen comes to Fedora logo in the center of
the screen. Then a sign in window with my name. I input my password and
the screen is dark green or bluish (?) with the Fedora logo at the bottom
now of the screen. And, that’s it; nothing else happens. I move the mouse
around not seeing anything at all. I can click on a restart or shut down
button. But nothing else happens. Help!! Please… Ronnie****

Hi Ronnie,****

Yes, George is right about the installation duration. I run fedup
overnight to get upgrade. Sure Ronnie, I will help you with the
installation. ****
****
FedUP:****
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FedUp****
****
Please go through the FedUp webpage first, then you will use the command
listed following in section of network of "Preparing for the Upgrade", ***
*
****
$sudo fedup-cli --network 19****
****
and it takes about about one hour to finished at my laptop. Then you
reboot and enter the system upgrade in GRUB selection. once the system
reboots, there should be a new entry in the GRUB menu titled System
Upgrade, that is the time-consuming part, I suggest you do it at overnight
time.****

One thing to be aware of is that fedup can sometimes hang at the end of
the installation. This happened to me going from FC17 to FC19. A manual
reboot cures it. It is a known issue and the recommended course is a
manual reboot. However, fedup can take **HOURS** complete, so run it
overnight to be sure it's done.****

Did the installer successfully reach the command-line selection interface,
i.e., the screen with several options, such as "Install Fedora 19",
"Troubleshooting" , etc.? If you have seen it, press ESC to switch from the
fedora logo booting screen to a more detailed progress screen, and let us
know at which step the system freezing.****
****
By the way, if you have internet access on your PC, I think you can
upgrade from Fedora 17 to 19 using FedUp, it is a more convenient way to
get upgraded.****

Greetings! I have downloaded Fedora 19 KDE Spin and burned the iso to CD.
When I begin the installation process, it does not enter or begin the
process. I am currently using Fedora 17 Gnome 3 with KDE software
applications. I prefer the KDE application. But, problem is the
installation process will not initiate. Thanks for your help. ****
