is there a particular reason why digikam is stuck with version 1.2? There are plenty of bugfixes in the new version(s). I have seen that F14 has got a build.

digikam-1.3 and newer requires kdegraphics-4.5

In fact, testing KDE 4.5.1 with F13+updates, I noticed the following 2 issues. The 2nd is related to the OP's question - i.e. I'm no hijacker ;)
1) A "groupupdate" via kde+kde-testing produced a conflict with the NM plasmoid from 4.4.5: the network icon conflicts with the one from a 4.5 base package (kdebase-runtime). Even now, trying to install kde-plasma-networkmanagement from kde-testing gives the same error:
Transaction Check Error: file /usr/share/kde4/apps/desktoptheme/default/icons/network.svgz from install of kde-plasma-networkmanagement-1:0.9-0.20.20100603.fc13.x86_64 conflicts with file from package kdebase-runtime-4.5.1-0.1.fc13.x86_64
2) A "update" via kde+kde-testing produced conflicts because digikam and kphotoalbum depend on (a specific .so from) kdeedu-marble-libs from 4.4.5 which either the 4.5 does not provide, or does not say it provides. After removing digikam and kphotoalbum I was able to update kdeedu* to 4.5.1.
So I guess there are some provides/requires issues.
Other than that (and the known missing network names), everything seems to look fine so far, just like we've become accustomed to with Fedora KDE, the prime Fedora Desktop spin :)

newer kde-plasma-networkmanagement build is in the repo now that should address this.

We could backport the kipi framework stuff if you think it makes sense.
I'm updating F13 via kde-testing. digikam updated to 1.4 last week and it runs very well.
I can't wait to test the remote database functionality.
