Hi,
I've just upgraded my main desktop from F20 to F21, and noticed that KMail behaves slightly different in terms of IMAP. Before upgrade I could go to a message in KMail, read it and it would be marked as read if I access mailbox via web interface. It was working perfectly the other way - KMail was syncing in few minutes so emails that I have read through web interface was marked as read in KMail.
Now the second case does not work. I still can mark email via KMail to see it marked in web interface, but marking message as read in web interface does not mark it in KMail.
Anybody had similar experience ? Any ideas if that is a bug, or planned change in behaviour of either KMail or IMAP server (Google Mail) ?
Regards

I use Evolution with Gmail via IMAP, and haven't noticed any change. Possibly Kmail is checking less frequently?

There was no change in KMail settings initiated by me, so why checks would be less frequent ? As well, "update folders" should do the sync when used, I think, yet it does not mark any email as read. I can as well see occasionally a pop up window that shows syncing/fetching process per mailbox, and that as well fails to mark any message as read.

I've no idea. I stopped using Kmail a very long time ago as IMAP always seemed to be problematic (no doubt it has improved since then). I was just responding to your query about possible changes in Gmail over IMAP.

I have been using Fedora 21 since July and I do not remember any difference between both versions.
I have several (~8/9) imap accounts and it works both ways as you describe.
I am sorry for not being of help here. :-(

Updating from F20 to F21 also involved updating to KDE 4.14.3 IIRC, and there were some changes to IMAP implementation in KDE PIM in 4.14 (some rather big changes and I can't say I'm happy with all of them myself).
Can you confirm that marking an email as read in the web ui, and then manually triggering mail sync in KMail does not sync the "read" status? If it is that case, please open a bug report on bugs.kde.org so it can be fixed upstream. I'll try to make sure the patch gets backported to Fedora packaging.
Cheers, Daniel
