I use ibus to enter Chinese and Japanese text.
Sometimes when I login to my KDE session all the ibus process have started and i can switch input methods by using the WindowsKey+Space.
However, the ibus icon does not appear in the system tray and there is no IBus Panel in the System Tray Settings "Entries" options.
If I restart plasmashell the icon shows as well as the entry in Settings.
Not sure what component to report this against or how to begin to debug.
First, we should make sure ibus process is runing when input method cannot work, you can run ps | grep ibus to find ibus process.
If ibus is running, we should check the envvars in gui process, Or, we should find out why ibus process quit.

Kindly re-read my original message.
I have stated that all the ibus process are running and that I can switch input methods. So, ibus itself is working.
It is simply the case that the ibus icon is absent from the systray. Restarting the plasmashell process
kquitapp plasmashell plasmashell &
and the icon is now present.
