battery monitor issues

Just noticed battery monitor doesn't work correctly.  I unplugged the ac several 
minutes ago.  Mouse-over the battery mon icon, it says

56% (discharging)  <<< good
AC Adapter: plugged in <<< bad

Just to confirm - it isn't just the monitor display that's at issue.  It's set 
to dim the screen after 5 minutes when unplugged.  I just tested and it 
definitely is not dimming the screen.
