When I try to delete files in Dolphin, I get the following message.
"The trash has reached its maximum size! Cleanup the trash manually."
When I click on the trash can icon in my panel, I find it is empty.
Why is this happening ?
Thanks

Have you checked that the size is set to something higher than zero?

It was set to 10% (~ 13GB). I tried making it larger and smaller to no avail. I ran my hard drive out of space last week. Would that have something to do with it ?
Have you checked for any big hidden files/folders in trash?
