Hi List,
Can someone tell me how to make Konqueror work with Gmail?
Thanks, Anoop

Switch the rendering engine from KHTML to WebKit, Konqueror will be able to work with Gmail fully then.

Hi Anoop,
Go to View > View Mode > WebKit.
That is not a permanent change however. To change permanently, go to System Settings > File Associations > Search for "HTML" > Goto "text - html" > Click the "Embedding" tab > Adjust the "Services Preference Order" to place WebKit first in the list.
Cheers, Mitch.

Thanks a lot!!! -Anoop

Try switching to "basic HTML view" gmail interface in Firefox. Then it will work in Konqueror.

Install webkitpart package.

Why use a web browser for e-mail?
The best solution is to use KMail, follow the instructions for IMAP access and you can still keep all your messages on the server as with webmail (which also means you can still use the webmail on other machines, or even the same machine for that matter), but get an actual e-mail client which is much nicer to use than some AJAX crap in the browser.
A web browser is not an e-mail client!
That said, Konqueror's default KHTML engine can be persuaded to work with GMail by faking browser identifiers or such. And indeed there's also the WebKitPart, but that's not that great an idea as it's not the recommended HTML renderer in Konqueror (in fact the only reason it works at all is that Konqueror can embed any arbitrary KPart).

Well, some of us actually like the "AJAX crap", and it's nice to be able to read my mail from wherever I happen to be and on whatever computer I'm using. Glad to hear that also includes Konqueror now.

Sometimes you should leave things in the users opinion. The "AJAX crap" Just works from everywhere. It doesn't help me at all if i have my emails via IMAP on my box, if i haven't access to that box. Anyways it's still the users preference and freedom to use what ever "crap" he wants.

Still interesting that this arbitrary peace of software works better than KHTML. I use what works and fits my needs. That is KDE in general, but thank god we can choose what we want. If WebKitPart does work better here, without the need to fake something, so may it be. The world will not come to an end.

IMAP leaves and manages all the messages on the server. You can still access the mails from another machine via the webmail or, at your option, via IMAP. IMAP is not POP. POP is designed for a single client machine per user, IMAP is mainly server-side and can thus handle muliple client machines for the same user just fine.

I know all that, and? Doesn't change anything. I love to use that Ajax "crap".
Oh, by the way, i guess because kmail (or a full featured email client) is that awesome to use, is the reason why you use something different to answer that threads. What was it again, Knode and gmane? I can handle all my emails with that Ajax crap. Anytime. Everywhere.

Because I use POP for my e-mail, not IMAP. I like my mail being downloaded to my local machine rather than being dependent on some server. But of course that doesn't scale to a mailing list!
I also use different threading settings in KMail (personal mail) vs. KNode (mailing lists): I set my personal mail to unthreaded so I always have the newest messages at the bottom and normally read them in order (and immediately read mail as it comes in, I have a sound alert configured to tell me about that), whereas I set the "newsgroups" (mailing lists gatewayed through Gmane, really) to threaded and read them thread by thread when I have time.
And finally, IMHO NNTP is just a better solution for mailing lists than traditional mail delivery. The whole concept of mailing lists is primitive: Why forward the whole discussion to everyone rather than just letting people poll the shared server directly? And KDE offers a dedicated tool for NNTP, so why not use it?

See, your personal use case ;) All i said in the first place was that every user uses what fits his needs. And leaving that up to the user is what is polite and falls under be excellent to each other ;) (i do know sometimes it's hard to be excellent or polite). If you think you have to share/spread the word of what you use, you could do it better. For example just tell people what you use and leave it up to them to decide what's better ;) But as always, nobody has to take advice from me. And as well, i'm always impressed by your knowledge.

I'm sorry, but it's just that to me asking "Why doesn't my browser work with my e-mail provider?" is a bit like asking "Why doesn't my cow lay eggs?" ;-) It's not what it is designed for. :-)
That said, of course there are reasons for webmail to exist, it wouldn't exist otherwise. ;-) But still, the option to use KMail with IMAP should at least be considered, especially as IMAP doesn't preclude using the webmail on machines on which you don't have access to KMail.

I personally admit I use my Gmail with an IMAP client. Thunderbird is what I used to use, but I have been running KMail for the last fortnight. I've used Evolution and I think it probably has the edge on KMail, but thats just my personal opinion.
I will say though, I don't think theres anything wrong with using Gmail in a browser. It offers a great user experience, better than any other webmail. If you're not a fan of AJAX technology, you can roll it back to the legacy HTML version :)
Cheers, Mitch.

Kevin.... The question isn't why doesn't my browser work with my email provider, but rather why doesn't my browser work with a website that everybdoy else's browser work with. And.... its an important website for a lot of users. It is a relevant and important question.

Worth mentioning to Anoop, if you're not on a webpage in Konqueror, you can't select the rendering engine via View > View Mode. If you're in a file manager session, it will only show you view options for changing the Window display (Icons, List, Details etc...).
Alexey mentions installing "webkitpart". I think its probably already installed if you changed the default layout renderer via System Settings (you wouldn't have had the option I don't think).
Cheers, Mitch.
