Plasma Desktop Rendering

The plasma desktop on one of my f38 systems is using software rendering 
for the display. Other systems do not. A f37 installation  on the same 
system does not use the software rendering.

What toggles the use of software rendering? The graphics processor is a 
NVIDIA  GT710
