SDDM Themes not working

I find that I now cannot select themes - and I'm getting either a solid
white or blue background when SDDM starts.

When I tried to test, this is what I received:

sddm-greeter --theme /usr/share/sddm/themes/01-fedora-breeze

I noticed that I didn't have the package sddm-themes installed so I
installed it.  Now I don't get the errors when testing, but the
01-fedora-breeze theme
has a plain solid white background, and the breeze them has a solid blue
background.  Something got smurfed...

Does /usr/share/backgrounds/default.png symlink exist and is valid?

It's provided by desktop-backgrounds-compat, we've seen reports of that 
symlink getting broken from time to time (no idea how that happens).

Nope, no longer there... looked on my laptop and found that it should be:
default.png -> ./f27/default/standard/f27.png

So I can just manually recreate it... but yeah, it wasn't recreated during
the upgrade process for some reason.

Hey Rex, just a clarification... I did find the symbolic link... it isn't
in /usr/share/backgrounds/
it is in /usr/share/backgrounds/images/

The other thing I noticed is that in:

is that it now looks like this:

[General]
type=color
color=#1d99f3
background=

Previously, there was a file called theme.conf.user - which had:
[General]
type=image
background=/usr/share/backgrounds/default.png

When I just did the upgrade on my laptop, it wasn't touched... but on my
desktop, it was erased.

Sorry, made a mistake:  on my desktop the file theme.conf.user is there,
but contains now:

type=color

Again, strange,

$ rpm -ql sddm-breeze |grep theme.conf
/usr/share/sddm/themes/01-breeze-fedora/theme.conf
/usr/share/sddm/themes/01-breeze-fedora/theme.conf.user
/usr/share/sddm/themes/breeze/theme.conf

The sddm-breeze package is supposed to provide both.

I've used this thread a number of times to recover because I never remember what the problem is exactly.  Was bitten again today and sure enough that symlink  was missing.

While it may not be much help, I highly suspect mine got whacked by `dnf upgrade`.  Sadly, it's been a while so this list may not be super useful, but here's what did get updated (below).  My bet is on some ill behaved %post.

I meant to say that my /usr/share/backgrounds/default.png symlink was missing and a simple reinstall of desktop-backgrounds-compat resolved the issue for me.
