We can still try to do that, and then merge/filter what has been done in
dist-git so far on top of it.
I agree. If we want to fix up the import to improve the history, I think
right now is the time to do it. There are still a pretty small number of
most-migration changes to apply on top of a new migration. If we let it go
much longer, it's going to become unreasonable to ditch the old (current)
incarnation of git history.
