Now this system does not seem to work even with acpi_rsdp specified. root
device does not seem to show up. I am not seeing any lvm related
initialization at all.

Maybe a initrd issue? I retested after rebuilding kdump initrd, vmcore
get captured. (boot with kernel 3.9.8)
