Re: laptop Digest, Vol 55, Issue 11
by Eran Arad
No good.
Indeed it does not matter if it is a new file or part of the keyboard conf.
In both cases the addition listed below caused a freeze of the X session
(during start up,
the machine froze, not reaching the login prompt).
So I had to return the original situation, and the problem is still open:
How can you work with FC14 on lenovo T510, on battery, without having
uncontrollable and
unreadable low luminosity?
Thanks,
Eran

Re: laptop Digest, Vol 55, Issue 10: brightness problems in FC14 on Lenovo T510
by Eran Arad
Hi
The brightness button are working properly in Windows 7.
The problem arises while using under FC14. Indeed it appears that the
brightness
buttons are not scaled correctly. I tried to set the power management so
that there won't
be lower brightness when working on battery but it had no effect.
Following this a message I received a suggestion from Vinzenz Vietzke to
add
a line
Option "RegistryDwords" "EnableBrightnessControl=1"
to file /etc/X11/xorg.conf.
However, while there is such a file in RedHat Enterprise distribution,
the FC distribution does not have such a file. None in FC12
in FC14 there is a /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d directory where the keybord conf
file
resides.
So, the problem still exists
Thanks for your support,
Eran

FC14 Toshiba Satellite P205D
by Mark juszczec
------------------------------
I've got FC14 (stock kernel from the FC14 Live CD kernel version
2.6.35.6-45.fc14.i686) installed on a Toshiba Satellite laptop.
I upgraded from FC8 last week. Performance with FC8 was fantastic, but it
was time to upgrade
FC14 performance hasn't been as good as with FC8 and I'm wondering if
there's something I need to do to optimize FC14 with this laptop.
The "recurring" problem - twice when the system has been very very busy
(first time trying to start a game in gxmame and the 2nd trying to compile
mame) - the system temp has gone up (expected) and the wireless has turned
off (unexpected)
The wireless wouldn't come back until after one or 2 reboots.
Windows starts just fine. The system diagnostics in Windows report no
errors.
Yesterday, I disabled all kinds of unneeded services and startup program.
Can anyone share any specific tweaks, optimizations or whatever they did to
make FC14 run on a laptop?

Well, I've previously removed some packages from my system, "Evolution*" ,
and that delete some extra packages, but nothing that a ' yum groupinstall
"GNOME Desktop Environment' can't solve, after that my system is now working
OK. Thanks everyone!

Problem with Fedora 14 on a Laptop
by Eran Arad
Hello
I wonder if someone encountered this problem:
I have just received a brand new Lenovo T510 Laptop. I have installed,
successfully, a Fedora 14 system. This is a dual-system machine, with Window
7 Professional also installed.
The problem: Staring the machine in Fedora, unplugged to electricity, the
screens dims down to hardly readable level. Trying to increase brightness,
using the function+brightness button has no effect. Plugging to electricity
restores proper brightness.
Another show up of the same problem: started plugged in with proper
brightness, than any touch of function+brightness key brings the screen to
unreadable, and unchangeable brightness. Seem to me that the eFedora 14
scales the potentiometer of screen luminosity incorrectly.
Some information: Working in Windows 7, on the same machine: this does not
happen
On previous Lenovo, T60p, with Fedora 12, this
did not happen either.
Has anybody encountered this problem ? any clue how to resolve,
Thanks,
Eran

Hi,
I'm new on fedora and I've downloaded and installed Fedora form the website.
Everything went fine till I needed to use an wireless connection. My laptop
is a sony vaio VGN-Z21WN and the issue is when I go to the connections tab I
have the wireless one blocked, I probably think its because maybe it doesnt
detect the wireless adapter. can someone help me solving that issue?
thanks

How to find the kernel module of device
by Vincent Li
Hi all,
I am just so confused that How to find the kernel modules(driver) of
device in my Linux box?
In the latest Fedora version, we can use lspci -k to list the kernel
drivers, like this:
06:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY
(rev 01)
Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device 1508
Kernel driver in use: wl
Kernel modules: wl, ssb
but in the earlier Linux, the lspci command without the -k option, so how
to find the kernel modules in the earlier linux system?
