David, sorry, not sent to list, here text:
My machine is a lower spec than yours, from Xorg.0.log, it uses:
PCI:*(0:0:2:0) 8086:27ae:1025:015b Intel Corporation Mobile 945GME
Express Integrated Graphics Controller rev 3,
PCI: (0:0:2:1) 8086:27a6:1025:015b Intel Corporation Mobile
945GM/GMS/GME, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller rev 3,
The log goes on to say it is using X.org's drivers
'intel',
'vesa'. and
'fbdev'.
Its intel driver is described in the log as supporting:
(II) intel: Driver for Intel Integrated Graphics Chipsets: i810,
i810-dc100, i810e, i815, i830M, 845G, 852GM/855GM, 865G, 915G,
E7221 (i915), 915GM, 945G, 945GM, 945GME, Pineview GM, Pineview G,
965G, G35, 965Q, 946GZ, 965GM, 965GME/GLE, G33, Q35, Q33, GM45,
4 Series, G45/G43, Q45/Q43, G41, B43, Clarkdale, Arrandale
I'm not familiar with Intel hardware, so I'm not sure if any of those
are GMA500.
Presumably your system is using the standard X.org 'intel', 'vesa',
and 'fbdev' drivers? Actually, I think you can alter the config to
tell it what to use (I may be mistaken). Perhaps your system is
'standardising' on a low performance driver when one of the other
in-built drivers would work better?
David, I should say that my help is likely to be limited to doing
comparisons for you - I don't have the skills to compile a driver. I
felt I could offer my experience with the AA1 - but it seems to be a
different chipset version, anyway, so I'm not sure my contribution
will be much more help to you. I am sorry about that.
regards, Ron
