Would it be possible to package that change into an rpm like
xorg-x11-synaptics-touchpad maybe

Great! It Worked, changed the
/usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/20thirdparty/10-synaptics.fdi
as recommended and now gsynaptics runs perfectly...
