an introduction...
by Bill Nottingham
Hi, I'm Bill, and I'm one of the resident old persons/man-behind-the-curtain
@ RH.
Something I'm intending to work on in the near future is integrating the
stuff for readonly-root into the base OS; this means that, when done,
most of the stuff in rc/ shouldn't be needed any more.
Ideally, all that kadischi will need to do will be write the
/etc/sysconfig/readonly-root file - there shouldn't need to be any
image prep or similar.
Some of the format of what gets done to enable running readonly
may change somewhat, as the idea is to have a single framework shared
by livecd, stateless, or other similar projects. I'll do my best
to not break kadischi too much without sending patches.

The great mailing list in the sky told me to do it, so... hello
Anyway... I just stumbled on the fedora livecd project. Exciting stuff.
I'm actually going to use it with CentOS, a close relative of
Fedora. I'll try to make notes on anything with Kadischi that's
specific to CentOS in case anyone else wants to use it with CentOS/
WBEL/etc.

Kadischi - FAQ
by J. Hartline
Hi.
I've added a FAQ to: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Kadischi/FAQ
however, it was recommended to me that we use the same
sort of format used here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FAQ
which is fine to me. Chitlesh, if you can do the changes neccessary
to teh FAQ pages, or get back to me on this subject, or anyone else for
that matter..
I can add that to the FAQ.
If anyone is curious the FAQ was derived straight from this mailing list.
I would think going into it in more detail would be ok, but depending on
how it is written
it could take up a large amount of FAQ space, which I don't think is an
issue except cosmetically.
Optionally, just the mention of pkgorder, genhdlist, comps.xml and
adding RPM packages in the repo dir
could also be sufficient. Some FAQs may warrant large answers, some may not.
When that time comes I guess we'll figure it out. :0

Nice seeing that it isn't as quiet as it was.
Don't want to spoil anyone's fun but kadischi only works with stock
Fedora Kernels which lessens its interest somewhat... Another bug which
I signalled is that during the run anaconda nukes my /etc/resolv.conf
file on the host machine. Most people don't have this problem I have it
all the time.
So to date I have been able to make heavily modified CDs with custom
x.org rpms and lots of other funky stuff like xine and VDR but I can not
build with a custom kernel build from the FC src rpm.
Cheers
Tony

Status of kadischi ?
by Mike Kearey
Hi all,
Am struggling to work out what is wrong with current kadischi (Most
recent from CVS).
I run the Live CD create command but it always bombs out at the end in
the livecd-mkinitrd.sh -
"/tmp/livecd-build_no11/system/lib/modules/None is not a directory."
A bugzilla exists https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?
id=169812 that matches what I am seeing. A friendly poster in that bug
seems to think it is anaconda's fault, that it indicates the kernel is
installed when it really is not. I have tried altering anaconda using
the changes indicated in the Bugzilla, however I see no difference..
I am using latest Fedora Core 4 packages ( yum update ), and
anaconda-10.2.1.5-2, all within a VMware machine if that is relevent.
What I really want to know is - Who has kadischi actually working ? If
so what version of anaconda ? What CVS version? What release of FC? Once
I know that I might track down the cause of the problem :)
Cheers,
Michael
P.S Here are tail of results from kadischi build:
making initrd image

CVS Commit
by J. Hartline
Hi.
I answered back the other day, someone suggesting they could grant some
sort of access
to the CVS for kadischi. The message may have not been sent.
If Elliot Lee (sp?) or anyone else could get back with me on this I
would like to get
things on the bugzilla commited to the CVS.
Them being:
1) newrpms-kadischi-userbuild.patch
2) A .spec file
Not too much.
Thanks.
