This is due to the high CPU usage of ModemManager http://www.databook.bz/?s=modem+manager and Nepomuk, Strigi and Akonadi http://www.databook.bz/?page_id=3728. In a regular environment I always disable them. They may be helpful to some tasks for some users, but not for me and they all really suck up CPU cycles when taken together.

Might there be some way to disable them in a LiveCD? I have not explored that.
