Yes, sounds like a memory problem. I'll stick with /usr/local for my
large files.

But the most likely is that the in-memory overlay is being exhausted. Fedora will create
a temporary overlay in memory to handle writes to the filesystem.

If the file is so large that copying it runs you out of memory, that could
potentially be your problem.
