Fedora livecd 16

Hi, 
 
I have to update the firmware on an HP server where there is currently a virtunalization
product installed. I was told I should install RedHat 6 update 2, update the firmware, and
then reinstall the virtualization environment. This solution is not viable. All this,
because a RedHat or Oracle Linux livecd is nowhere to be found. 
 
I was wondering if the Fedora livecd v.16 contains the ld-linux.so.2 library, which is
where the Oracle Linux 6 update 2 "boot disk" is failing currently.
 
How compatible is Fedora with Red Hat and (Oracle Linux)?
 
I guess it is worth a try, but wanted an opinion from you experts. :o)

Recent versions of glibc seem to provide that version of ld-linux.so.
All of my machines are using F17 (due for release in a few weeks) or
rawhide, so I can't easily check F16, but it probably also has the same
version of ld-linux.so.

It depends on what you need. They all use the same packaging system.
Fedora is using systemd instead of init for starting processes. There
is support for init scripts, but the differences could matter for some
stuff.

I do run sqlplus on a F17 machine at work. I needed to label some of
the bundled libraries since they were not correctly built (I think
they used writeable segments) and selinux blocks them by default.
That is a long way from running an oracle database instance though.

The livecd mailing list is probably not the best place to ask about this.
This is going to hit a much smaller part of the Fedora population, than
say the users list, and really your question isn't live CD specific even
though you are planning to use a live image for your work.

thank you for your quick response. 
 
I don´t think I expressed my issue well. It has nothing to do with Oracle database. 
 
The servers have Oracle VM sofware/OS installed on them, but the HP firmware needs to be
updated. The suggestion we got was to install Oracle Linux 6 update 2 in order to update
firmware and then reinstall OVM server. This would be very tedious...
 
The issue is really with getting a suitable environment in order to update the HP
firmware, without affecting the OVM installation. 
 
I think we´re just going to try it...we may not hit the ld-linux.so.2 issue, but another
one instead, we´ll see...

A note about /etc/skel

Hello

I noticed that when I copy a large file into /etc/skel during %post my 
ISO is created correctly but crashes on boot up. The crash happens when 
liveuser is being created and the large file in /etc/skel is copied to 
/home/liveuser. If I boot into single user mode first and delete the 
large file from /etc/skel and then "telinit 5", liveuser is created and 
everything works correctly. I tried to rebuild the ISO using a larger 
root partition but still got the same problem. If I copy the large file 
to /usr/local there is no problem.
Does anyone know if there is some sort of size restrictions on files 
added to /etc/skel ?

If the file is so large that copying it runs you out of memory, that could
potentially be your problem.

F16 does have it:  /lib/ld-linux.so.2
