All,
I'm the project lead of Zikula and I have been following this thread with
interest because for many months I have silently worried about these topics
and that the development and launch of Insight has, from my point of view,
taken much longer than it really needs, especially because, in reality,
Insight doesn't even demand anything particularly demanding from a Zikula
platform perspective that might require more in-depth customization. Of
course, I am acutely aware of the problems we all face in open-source, in
that it's all effectively a hobby and people have to earn the bread and
butter so individual time is limited. I can also understand all of your
concerns about 'leaning on the Zikula people too much' etc, but this has
given me exactly the right opportunity to speak.
Firstly, I am passionate about Zikula and I am lucky that I am able to work
full time on the Zikula project without distractions from a 'have to do real
job'. From my own perspective, Fedora's adoption of Zikula is a very
positive thing for our project - one that is worth nurturing and caring for.
Secondly, the Zikula project already has an active policy to care for
things directly related to and that benefit Zikula. Not only do we care for
the development of the Zikula core, but we indeed develop and care for a
number of modules too, actively as a policy. After the next Zikula dot
release, we will also move much more actively into documentation and
training to raise awareness. I tell you all this because I want to so how
active the Zikula project is with related projects. The pagemaster module
that is being used for Insight is also being officially developed by the
Zikula Foundation.
>From my perspective, it would make perfect sense for some of our people to
join the Fedora project on a more official basis with the objectives of, a)
bringing Insight to fruition, b) to be available for maintenance, and c)
training some of you in the ways of Zikula over time. In doing this, you
also do not have to feel you are taking advantage of us because we would be
real Fedora volunteers passionate and interested in helping the Fedora
project. I believe this will help Fedora in the long term and strategically
for us, it is a good investment of our time and resources.
I hope I have not said anything wrong or offended anyone - I am just trying
to find a practical solution with mutual benefit.
Regards,
Drak
Project leader for Zikula.

Insight for post-GA
by Paul W. Frields
OK, referencing our meeting minutes here:
http://meetbot.fedoraproject.org/fedora-mktg/2010-04-22/fedora_insight.20...
Insight is not ready as of our go/no-go meeting this afternoon, and
based on our self-imposed production schedule, we are going to target
post-GA for this work.
However, I am still concerned about an issue that's plagued us since
we started, which is that as a group, it doesn't seem like we're
developing our skills at *solving* problems on the Zikula platform.
We've been extremely fortunate to have some wonderful people from the
Zikula community who are spending time helping us fix problems when we
run into them. To what extent is that collaboration helping them?
Are we going to approach a point where they are expending much more
effort than what they're getting in return? What does that mean for
sustainability?
These are hard questions. I'm not proposing that we simply not work
on Insight. It's a worthwhile effort many people have said they want,
and would increase the visibility and depth of content we could offer
a lot of different types of users and the public at large, in a way
our wiki can't.
We also don't have to halt work on the remaining tickets by any means.
Are there some alternatives we should pursue at the same time?

[Fedora Insight] Auth issue
by Mateo TibaPalacios
Hi!
Just want to say that last night I had connection problems and was unable to
debug.
I will work on it this weekend to get closed #2107 and #2111,
and as I like CSS, will put a hand on it too,
but I need to know how to contribute without interfering gwerra's work.
Greetings!

Fedora Insight / zikula assistance needed
by Robyn Bergeron
Hi Drak,
We talked on irc the other day (I'm rbergeron) and you mentioned you
could send someone our way to help if we needed someone.
Well - we do :)
Our current list of issues follows below.
We are meeting today for the next few hours from the time of this mail
on #fedora-mktg on irc.freenode.net - if someone can log in and give
us a hand, that would be awesome.
Additionally - if it is in the next day or so - looking for any of the
following nicks on irc and talking to us will probably find someone
who can round a group up or at least point whoever has come to rescue
us in the right direction: rbergeron, stickster, pcalarco, hiemanshu,
gwerra, ke4qqq.
Also, the helper can post to logistics(a)lists.fedoraproject.org and we
can coordinate a time when we can all meet. We are hoping to get
Fedora Insight to staging by 4/24 and officially launched on 4/27, so
any help would be much appreciated, and the sooner the better :)
Thanks!!
-Robyn

Logging in to the Zikula system produces this banner: "Error! The

because of a problem with what you input. Please check and try again."
However, no ill effects seem to happen. This needs to be corrected to
keep people from thinking something is actually wrong.
