[Insight] Calendar idea

So here are some starting questions regarding the calendar idea for Insight, solicited on our Phase 2 project plan[2]. PLEASE ADD MORE! Mo Duffy might be the right person to ask about this, but one approach would be to look at each of these cases, and figure out what we'd ideally *like* the workflow to be. Don't bother worrying about how much work it will take to make it happen, this is just about identifying or brainstorming an ideal situation. We can break it down into work details later! :-) Here's what I've tried to ask/answer for each question: * Who's trying to accomplish the task? * What are they trying to do? * What do they currently have to do to accomplish that task? * In an ideal world, what would they do instead? (Forget about superpowers for now.) ;-) * How much of a win is it? (Huge, medium, or tiny?) * Fedora contributors * I want to attend the next Fedora Infrastructure team meeting on IRC -- when does it happen? RIGHT NOW: (1) Find their wiki page, look for meeting time, convert UTC to my timezone. (2) Find someone in IRC who knows, and ask. SHINY FUTURE: Go to one-stop calendar page, choose a filter by team (Infrastructure) and type (weekly IRC meeting) -- results are automatically in my timezone. (Medium/small) * I want to know when the #fedora-meeting room is free, and put in a reservation when I find an open time. RIGHT NOW: Find the meeting room wiki page, convert UTC to timezone, edit a complex table with footnotes to make a reservation. SHINY FUTURE: Go to one-stop calendar page, choose a filter by type (weekly IRC meeting) and room. Read the schedule, which auto displays in my timezone, decide on an addition, and click "Add IRC weekly meeting to room" to make a reservation. (Huge) * I want to see a list of important dates like string and feature freezes for the next release. RIGHT NOW: Find the schedule wiki page, jump to detailed schedules if needed, find key tasks or detailed schedule for my team. SHINY FUTURE: Go to one-stop calendar page, choose a filter by team if applicable, then by type (release task). (Small) * I want to add an event to the Fedora events calendar and have that entry kick off other things like an eventbox or media request in a Trac. RIGHT NOW: Find the events page. Edit the wiki page (large, big tables). Email a bunch of people or go to Trac instances and manually enter tickets to get stuff done. SHINY FUTURE: Go to one-stop calendar page, choose an easy "Add an event" link. If I'm an Ambassador I get extra fields that allow me to request media and event support. Behind the scenes, tickets are filed for that stuff. (Huge) * General public / Fedora user * I want to know when the next Fedora release comes out. RIGHT NOW: Find the schedule wiki page, read GA date (what's a GA?). SHINY FUTURE: Click easy to find "Schedule for Fedora <N+1>" to see this table. (Small) * I want to know what Fedora events are happening in my geographic region next month. RIGHT NOW: Locate events page, find my geo link, read events. SHINY FUTURE: Go to one-stop calendar page, filter by type (Public event) and region (my geo). * Add more here... Note that some of these start shading into the areas that Hiemanshu wants to cover in his GSoC project. So I'd REALLY, REALLY like it if he and/or Juan (nushio) could be at one of our meetings to discuss, or we can set up a special time to do that. Just need some word back from them... -- Paul W. [Insight] Branch/merge process

I revised Peter's excellent proposal on our Features module process here: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Insight_development_using_Features_module The revisions are in accordance with the discussion we had in Tuesday's meeting, hopefully. [Insight] Feature pull enabled on insight01.dev

I got the puppet repo updated so that insight01.dev now pulls the 'devel' branch HEAD of the 'fedora-insight-features' repo for insight01.dev. Once we're sure that's working well and we have our process well in hand, I can easily expand the function to the staging and production hosts. I set it up so that these can be easily enabled in the mainfests/nodes/ entries for each of those hosts. -- Paul

[Insight] Basic features problems?

I was looking at the basic features enabled in the "fedora-insight-features" repo, and I found some problems: * The module appears to require the "admin_menu" module, which isn't correct. * In looking at the overall feature dependencies, they're quite large. I would expect for quite a few, of course, because we do have various content modules enabled. But not all of these look to be used by us. Peter, I think you might want to take another look at the modules enabled and see if all of them are necessary. When I tried recreating the feature here, I got a *huge* diff between the recreated feature code, and what you had imported. So I didn't want to wipe out anything we really did need. -- Paul

IMPORTANT - Fedora Project Contributor Agreement Signing Window Is Open

Please take a moment and read this brief email, as it is important. Fedora is in the process of retiring our old "Individual Contributor License Agreement" (also known as the ICLA or CLA) and replacing it with the new Fedora Project Contributor Agreement (FPCA). All Fedora contributors with accounts in the Fedora Account System (https://admin.fedoraproject.org/accounts) who have agreed to the old CLA *MUST* agree to the new FPCA by June 17, 2011 to continue contributing to Fedora. Here is how you do this: 1) Login to the Fedora Account System: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/accounts 2) Once logged in, click on the "My Account" link in the blue box on the left side of the window. 3) On the page that loads, you will see a section labeled "Account Details". Look for the line that says "Contributor Agreement". On that line, you should see a new section that says: "New CLA Not Signed - We need contributors to sign the new Contributor Agreement(Complete it now!)" Click on "Complete it now!" and follow the prompts. ***** It is important that Fedora Account holders who have signed the old Fedora CLA sign the new FPCA. We have allotted a window of one month for Fedora contributors to agree to the FPCA. This means that after June 17, 2011, any Fedora Contributors who have not agreed to the FPCA will have their "cla_done" flag set to False. This also means that any groups that they are in which are dependent upon "cla_done", such as "packager", "ambassador", and Fedora People access will be removed. There are a few accounts which are exempt from this, specifically, accounts which are members of the "cla_dell", "cla_intel", and "cla_redhat" groups. If you do not know what these groups are, you are probably not in them. :) Accounts in these groups will not see the "New CLA Not Signed" line on their "My Account" page, and do not need to take any action at this time. Please take a minute and login to FAS to agree to the terms of the FPCA, to avoid loss of access. [Insight] dev host fully working

Note that the dev host shares the same "real FAS" backend authentication with the staging and production servers. I did a successful restoration of data from the production server so we can start to use this host to attack our ticket work, as well as plan feature development. So I have an idea, I suggest that we push our features into a big git repo. The each feature is in a sub-directory like "Gallery". So, root directory, which is the git repo(?), called "Insight Features", Gallery path is /something/Insight-Features/Gallery. What do you think about this? -- Peter

Fedora events system

Hiemanshu Sharma is planning to work on a Fedora events system as a participant in GSoC 2011. When Juan (nushio) Rodriguez posted about this, I pointed out[1] this might be really useful to implement on Drupal, where the entire free software community -- heck, *thousands* of users/sites beyond FOSS even -- could take advantage of it. One of the resources that Peter Borsa pointed out was the "Conference Organizing Distribution" for Drupal.[2] It looks like they have a lot of functionality implemented here already, but AIUI/IIRC Hiemanshu has a good deal of experience with Drupal, and this might be a great place for him to participate upstream, but yet have Fedora directly benefit from or showcase the work. I've invited Juan and Hiemanshu to this list so we can talk about how we might slot this with Phase 2 work. Feature driven development

Hey! I am thinking about that, how to develop our features with Features module. I will create a wiki page but I do not know that where can I put that?! Under https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Insight_customizations_to_Drupal link or https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/How_to_develop_for_Insight. Let us discuss this topic, I have a few idea but that is not so easy.(We have to write custom code etc-etc., http://bxl2011.drupaldays.org/node/216) So, what do you think about this?
