It would be good if we define the so called "Target
audience" for LXDE.
I can make it an action item for me to wiki-fie it since I will be
writing various LXDE related wiki-pages anyway during the holidays.
Hi Jóhann,
let's start with some simple definitions. Most of them are not specific
to Fedora but come from upstream.
* Users of old hardware that can not run new, resource hungry
desktop environments like KDE or GNOME well.
* Users or netbooks, especially first generation netbooks with
their limited amount of SD storage and slow CPU. For netbooks
lxlauncher is the launcher of choice. I will add a "LXDE
netbook" session to the login manager for F15.
* People switching from Windows. LXDE has many keyboard shortcuts
that are the same as on Windows and gpicview is *very* similar
to the picture viewer of Win XP, leafpad is very similar to
notepad etc.
All these definitions are more or less on a technical level and have
nothing to do with the previous target audience debate in Fedora.
Previously we discussed what people we should target in a strategically,
e.g. what skill set. AFAIK this is up to the board.
LXDE still has some sharp edges, not everything can be configured
graphically but in a configuration file. Can we target advanced users
that are able to do this or should we try to make everthing as easy as
possible? Can we drop the dependency on openbox and target users who
want to select their favorite window-manager themselves?
I'm afraid this is not up to us, although I would like to have spins
define their own target audiences.

Christoph
