Hey folks,
It's been a while since I last brought up the topic of Wayland for LXQt[1], but some interesting developments have occurred since then.
First, it looks like upstream is settling on labwc[2] and has a session that can be packaged[3]. Alternatively, there's apparently a Wayfire plugin for LXQt too[4].
Second, there's a full-blown Wayland effort going on now[5] and a separate status page[6].
Third, SDDM supports running on Wayland (Fedora KDE does this with KWin through sddm-wayland-plasma[7], and Fedora Sway does this with Sway through sddm-wayland-sway[8]). It should be relatively easy to adapt the latter's configuration for labwc or wayfire.
It seems like there's some concrete direction for LXQt on Wayland that it would be cool to see a Wayland session offered in Fedora LXQt.
What do you think? Are we at a time to finally make this happen?

Hi Neal,
Thanks for all the info. I'm generally supportive for adapting Wayland. From the current status of Wayland support, I think F40 is less possible as I've been really busy and I'm almost the only active packager working on LXQt updates. So I think it might worth to target for Fedora 41.
I'll look into more details in December this year and see how the process goes.

Hello Zamir,
Name's Steve, and I'm one of the KDE packagers in the KDE sig.
As my (immediate) work on packaging plasma 6 draws to an end (Or at least, it'll get quieter... *knock on wood*) I'd like to help you with the lxde packaging efforts.
If you don't mind adding me to the related groups, I don't mind helping with packaging efforts in lxde.

I assume you mean LXQt not LXDE ;-)

That would be awesome, thanks for your help!
Can I know your FAS ID? I don't know of a way to search FAS from your email address.
In case it helps, I have a note about the build order for LXQt desktop in Fedora[1]. I usually package the new version of LXQt in May and late December. So if anyone is working on LXQt in the two months, we will need to coordinate to avoid duplicated effort,

Feel free to add myself (FAS: ngompa) and Steve (FAS: farchord) to the lxqt-sig group in FAS when you can.
I've gotten co-maintainership of labwc for myself and the SIG as well in preparation for this.

While that happens ill start looking at the packages that are missing from fedora. I’ll prolly hit Neal with some review requests.

Hi Steve, Neal,
Thanks both for your offering! I've added both of you to the SIG on FAS, and subscribed you to the lxqt-sig@ list (the one used for receive bug info etc.)
I'm currently working on updating to LXQt 1.4.0 and it seems that obconf-qt no longer builds, which seems to related with the libxml2 update[1]. And libfm-qt depends on lxqt-menu-data, which is not in Fedora yet. So if nobody already started on this lxqt-menu-data package, I'll work on it soon.
Moreover, thanks Neal for taking over those orphaned openbox related packages that is required by LXQt!

I tried to update libqtxdg. Couldn't push, seems the lxqt sig group has no permission on that package, and thus, neither do I.

Hi Steve,
Sorry to hear that you were not feeling well.
I'll double check the permission issue later this week. Additionally, I've finished the LXQt 1.4 update in my copr[1] and the test seems good. So I'll start pushing these packages into Fedora this week. You can just wait until I finished the commits

I've pushed all my commits. Koji builds are still half ways. They should be finished within this week.
So the remaining thing is about the obconf-qt failure.
Thanks.

Hi Steve,
I have never used Matrix till now, so please expect me to join Matrix later when I have more time. If you need to reach me via IM, I'm still on IRC as zsun on #fedora-lxqt of libera.chat. Otherwise, email should be good for now. In the mean time, actually I forgot to use a side tag this time (sorry!), so the LXQt 1.4.0 packages are already in Rawhide earlier this week.

I can look into that but I'd have to build it in your side tag (Or wait for it to land on rawhide), can you maybe drop by the lxqt channel on matrix and drop the sidetag?
Thanks!

Hi Steve,
Sorry to hear that you were not feeling well.
I'll double check the permission issue later this week.
I've checked and realized that libqtxdg is actually not owned by LXQt SIG. As I already have the admin permission, I've just added LXQt SIG as a committer. Your permission for it should be good soon.
Thanks.

I tried to update libqtxdg. Couldn't push, seems the lxqt sig group has no permission on that package, and thus, neither do I.

Hi Steve,
I have never used Matrix till now, so please expect me to join Matrix later when I have more time. If you need to reach me via IM, I'm still on IRC as zsun on #fedora-lxqt of libera.chat. Otherwise, email should be good for now.
I've finally joined the matrix channel now.
In the mean time, actually I forgot to use a side tag this time (sorry!), so the LXQt 1.4.0 packages are already in Rawhide earlier this week.
