Action needed: update of the packit article
by Adam Samalik
Hi Petr,
There have been multiple people finding the term "auto-package" in your
article as misleading. The main concern was that packit currently doesn't
generate a SPEC file which we felt like it's a substantial part of
packaging. So I had to pull it out for additional editing.
If I get it right, once you have the spec file, it does all the work for
you, right? So maybe we could change it to "auto-update" in the title? And
clarify that in the article, too?
I understand that auto-packaging is likely the goal of the packit project,
but I personally find it a bit aspirational at this very stage. That being
said, I'd be great to get another article out once we get the SPEC file,
too.
Do you prefer to update the article yourself, or would you rather have one
of the editors to have a look at it? I'm asking because I don't want to put
words into your mouth (like "auto-update") without asking you first. :-)
Please let me know.
Cheers!
Adam

F31 Supplemental Wallpaper post
by S.Kemter
Hi,
I did write the usual post for the begin of the submission phase for the
F31 Supplemental Wallpaper today. Would be nice it can be published,
when the phase opens. Just changing of the dates and added a line,
please stay away from submitting pets/cats. And the gallery changed.

Fedora Magazine / CommBlog community awards @ Flock 2019?
by Justin W. Flory
Hi all,
Previously there was offline discussion to organize Magazine + CommBlog
community awards at Flock 2019. I wanted to re-surface this and see if
anyone wants to take lead on this idea for Flock 2019.
I thought it is a good engagement strategy to create community awards
for authors / editors of the Fedora Magazine + CommBlog. I took the idea
from Opensource.com with their People's Choice and Editor's Choice
awards each year. Some ideas for awards were the following:
* Top 5 new contributors of 2019
* Editor's pick: Top 10 articles
* Author(s) of the Year
* Editor(s) of the Year
* Etc.
Ideally, awards should be as objective as possible.
Since not everyone who contributes is able to attend Flock, we could
also give out honorary awards for people who are unable to attend, and
accompany it with a published announcement to go out on the Magazine /
CommBlog.
The Flock CfP is now open (https://flocktofedora.org). Perhaps this
could be integrated into an evening activity or something at the end of
the conference (so an awardee who might be tied up in other sessions
would have a chance to attend and be recognized).
The first round of feedback for this idea was positive. Does anyone have
an interest in leading this event with the support of our editor teams?
Thanks!

Here's a card for what we need to make sure a hosted instance will
support. If you can think of anything that's missing, please add it:
https://teams.fedoraproject.org/project/bcotton-magazine-commblog-migrati...
(Note that you'll probably need to have me add you to the project. Let
me know if you want in)
That's the only card on the board for the moment. We'll start
populating more as we go. The idea is to be able to do some testing at
Flock when we'll have a lot of contributors handy, including folks who
can help with FAS and fedmsg issues that might come up. If you want to
contribute in any way, let me know and I'll add you to the project.

The Fedora Magazine has the same issue. Usually the CommBlog "follows"
whatever the Magazine does for its infrastructure since they are more or
less the same base configurations.
I prefer Option #1. I have a strong preference that infrastructure
components of the CommBlog are managed by a *paid* team whose
responsibilities include maintaining these sites. At least on the
CommBlog end, the responsibility separation between the community and
infrastructure was not defined and caused hiccups like deploying theme
updates to fix bugs taking a couple years and also how to manage
backups. I am not aware of a backup plan for the CommBlog but I might
not have looked closely enough.
I see this change enabling editors to spend less time being volunteer
sysadmins and more time focusing on the content being published.
