Hello,
This November will be the fifteenth anniversary of the Fedora project. Would it be appropriate to mark this event with an article on the magazine, or is that more community blog content? I thought it might be fun to provide people with a Fedora Core 1 libvirt image that they could boot up and see what Fedora was like in the beginning. Thoughts?
Link
+1. I think the libvirt image is a great idea.

Definitely magazine-worthy!
Wao! 15? I was promoting Fedora for around the half of that! 7.5 years! :D So proud to be a Fedora Ambassador! Wish long life to The Fedora Project! Best, Julita

Update:
I have a functional qcows2 libvirt image that, with some fine tuning, we should be able to make available for download. It's a bit funky (apparently XFree86's mouse input isn't really keen on Clickpads...), but it works.
As far as the article content, I was thinking of a few sections, authored by different folks:
* History of Fedora - mattdm, your summary of the Fedora project history on the Fedora Podcast was nice and concise. Do you think you could port that into text form?
* Fedora Stats - some fun statistics about Fedora at the time (number of packages, versions)? Does anyone get really excited about finding fun and obscure statistics?
* Features - Highlights of the features for Fedora Core 1. This could be a fun segment for someone either fascinated with history, or someone who loves reminiscing about the "good ol' days".
Any volunteers?

I entirely forget what I said, but I could go back and listen. :)

I could go listen and write a summary too, but it might be neat to have an article like this be a collaborative effort from a few people in the community. _______________________________________________ Fedora Magazine mailing list -- magazine@lists.fedoraproject.org To unsubscribe send an email to magazine-leave@lists.fedoraproject.org

Yeah, definitely. I'm in for it. :)
Hello!
Believe it or not, this is just a few short weeks away. We discussed this article in the Editor's meeting today, and decided to split it out into a few articles.
This article will become a "Fedora Core 1 Tech Review" article. And we'll add two more: one about the artwork, and one about the community/people. For the article about the people, we need to identify and contact a few members of the community who've been around for a long time. Our plan is to ask them a few small questions in the hopes of getting a few anecdotes about the Fedora Project of 15 years ago.
Here's my take on the questions. Please suggest any changes, as we need to get these out to people soon.
* How did you get involved with the Fedora Project?
* What's the most fun thing you've done for Fedora over the years?
* Are you still involved now? If so, what are you doing for the project now?

Somewhat related for the fifteenth-year anniversary, an announcement is coming next week on the Community Blog for Fedora Appreciation Week, which will run during the anniversary week.
It would be cool to cross-promote content for it on the Magazine if possible. :-)
More info in the pending draft:

Awesome! You bet. I think we can do two articles:
1) A promotional article encouraging readers to contribute stories, much like your pending draft post. Do you want to draft it for the Magazine? Sort of like a reunion special? :)
2) During our anniversary week, we'll open our Monday article with a blurb and link over to the FAW site (or whatever long-form medium you end up posting it in).

- How did you get involved with the Fedora Project?
Maybe "How did you *first* get..."? (Full disclosure: I think I drafted all these questions and any bad wording is my fault.) ;-)
- What's the most fun thing you've done for Fedora over the years?
Or... "What's one lesson you learned working in the Fedora Project that still resonates with you?"
- Are you still involved now? If so, what are you doing for the project
now?
"Are you still involved now, and if so, how?"

Those seem like good modifications. Enough to prompt people for some anecdotes, hopefully?
Hi all,
I drafted an email to send to the contributors. Sound okay?
