New Magazine theme?

Hi all,

I have been hacking lately on a new theme for the magazine. This theme
kinda brings us more in line with the other Fedora websites / apps in terms
of theme.

Additonally, this adds a sidebar that is constant on both the posts and
front pages, which will allow us to better run "ads" like we discussed with
a link to the community blog, or elsewhere in the Fedora Project.

anyhoo, here are some screenshots, and it there are no major issues with
the layout, i can work towards getting this live soon!

The sidebar is a cool idea, but i prefer the actual graphic for the rest 
of the page

Can you expand on this comment a little more? I'm not 100% sure I get what

Can you expand on this comment a little more? I'm not 100% sure I get 
what you mean here.

I like the sidebar idea for the theme, but for other graphic (such 
header footer..) i prefer the actual assets instead those on the screenshot

I like the idea of having the search bar closer to the top (in the current
site is at the end of the page), also the "Author" part at the end looks
really good. I don't see the "Social Widget" at the end of the article, for
me that's essential. The "Next Post" and "Previous Post" are also missing,
but that aren't a big deal. I love the date of the post in the title, it's
a lot better than having it at the end. I'm not sure about having the
"Categories" just over the post title. Also I like the font is a little
bigger, and is black, instead of gray. Do you think that including the
Twitter TL or the Twitter Posts widget is a good idea? It can replace the
Recent Comment, that look a little random being comments on other posts.

HUGE +1 on this. The trend of light-gray-font-on-white-background is
horrible for readability. Definitely keep the black font.

Why did we drop the RSS icon?  I'd like it to get equal time with subscribe by email.

We need to provide context for the comments in the sidebar.  At a minimum, we probably need the article title and a link.  It also needs a title that makes it clear these aren't the comments on the article to the left.  Possible "Recent comments on the site" ?  This is the part of the design I am least sold on.

Yeah, the idea here would be we can now add this to the sidebar. (this is
all widgetized, so it would be as simple as adding a new widget just after
we switch the themes over)

Yeah, this one was pretty much me just adding an extra widget in there. We
can very easily not add this widget at all.

I don't like the location of "More Like This" and "Recent Posts". It
detracts from the article itself, and having images there is visually
distracting. Have you tried that theme with an article that has
screenshots, particularly one that has a screenshot early on in the
article? I suspect that would create a lot of visual clutter.

What about putting "More Like This" at the bottom of the article? Like
a "hey, you read this article, maybe you'll like these?"

And Recent Posts have nothing to do with the currently viewed article;
can that go into the gray sidebar on the right?

The new look for the Magazine looks awesome! If you're working on
WordPress themes, it would also be nice to pull the Community Blog
closer in sync with what is happening on the Magazine too.
