Hi yulytas,
The Magazine editors approved your idea for an article on LaTeX and Octave. Are you still interested in writing this? If so, make sure you have followed these steps:
https://fedoramagazine.org/writing-an-article-for-the-fedora-magazine/
(You can consider the "pitch" step done.)
Hey Paul!
Thanks for your kind response!!! This is my a post I wrote In case I need to do it better, please do not hesitate to tell me :) Happy to meet you!

Hello Magazine list
I wrote a draft of the article you have approved related to Octave:

It is not public yet, in order to correct it in case you suggest it.
Thanks, Julita

This article looks very interesting! Thank you for contributing it.
You can put images in a post -- use the "Add Media" button above the editor to insert a graphic.
I just realized we don't have good tips to tell writers how to do that, so I'm going to provide some here, and put them on our Magazine page of tips for writers.
* Use a default Fedora environment for screenshots. The background, styles, fonts, theming, color schemes, and prompts should be unmodified. This goes for terminals as well as graphical apps. An easy way to do this is make a fresh user account.
* If needed, alter the display resolution so it's no higher than 1280x800 (or 2560x1600 if a HiDPI type display). This ensures screenshots are legible even in thumbnails. Use the Display settings panel in the GUI to do this if needed.
* If the input/output is all text-based, copy/paste from a terminal and use the "Preformatted" style, rather than using a screenshot.
Hope this helps. Let us know -- here or in IRC #fedora-magazine -- if you get stuck or need any other assistance.
Hello Fedora Magazine
I've finished the article of Octave with figures included:
<goog_885110000> https://fedoramagazine.org/?p=18758&preview=true&preview_id=18758
I also did another post related an event I organized in Lima, Peru for the FWD:
https://fedoramagazine.org/?p=18802&preview=true&preview_id=18802&am...
In case they need to be improved, just let me know.
Thanks in advanced, Julita Inca

The article requires editing for grammar/style/flow. This will be assigned to an editor and we'll complete the rest of the steps for you. I was mentioning this in our IRC channel earlier, and I think we'll likely publish this on Friday or next Monday at latest.

Hi Julita, maybe some other list members have ideas on how you could circumvent issues with IRC ports. I have a feeling that something like Matrix/Riot or even using the webchat.freenode.net interface might help in this case, if you want to get in the channel for some reason.

Hi Julita,
I installed Octave on a F26 system and opened a fresh user account to test the steps in your article. When I do, I get a completely black plot window. I've tested this in a brand new F26 VM guest install as well, same results.
It turns out this is a known problem with Octave on Wayland systems: https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?51442
My only guess is that you are either:
(1) running an Xorg session instead of Wayland, or (2) you set up graphics_toolkit() beforehand or in a startup file
I'll adapt the instructions to advise using graphics_toolkit("fltk") which seems to work best and with no spew to the console.

Except... this makes all the screenshots inaccurate. And I found out that the "fltk" toolkit is just ugly. Using "gnuplot" is beter.
Do you have time to redo the screenshots using the gnuplot toolkit?

I think I managed to provide a notice in the article that explains why your screenshots are different. Also, Wayland seems to be finicky with Octave (this is an Octave bug) so this might be the safe way to go.
Note to all prospective writers: Please try to use a standard install when writing/testing your articles. You should be careful not to set readers up for disappointment or other unexpected results.
I did work some scientific articles tough Sharing those things who people doubt in using Linux with Fedora in confer ences worked for me. It is shame that it did not work to you.
