Fedora Store special interest group

I have created a new SIG (Special Interest Group) to try to solve, this time in a more formal way, our swag problems. A basic page is up on the wiki that talks about some initial workflow questions, etc. http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/SIGs/Store If you are willing to commit some time to helping with this problem, feel free to sign yourself up. I have taken the liberty of adding Mairin Duffy and Jack Aboutboul to the SIG -- the former because she asked me to devote some time to this problem and the latter because I have decided that I want him involved. ;) I am purposefully using fedora-marketing-list for the email instead of starting Yet Another Email List. Computer hardware that supports Fedora. I say in the sense that maybe laptops/video cards sata that is known to not have issues. (No need to keep stock just resell from other people) Linux games since there is a burgeoning linux gaming industry and it's starting to improve. The problem with those two ideas is a risk of performing because of propietary actions. Cheers, Marc

Hi A fair review of Fedora 8. A few notes to Simon (CC'ed). Thanks for the review. Sendmail is activated by default since we need a MTA to send critical logs to the administrator but it connects only to the local host and the security risk of that is pretty much non-existent. You might want to note that critical factor in the review. Also the Java plugin problem of having to run mozilla-config manually is fixed in an update. NetworkManager is indeed started by default in the desktop live cd's as opposed to the regular DVD. We hope to have it be the default system-wide by the next release. The problem with old icons might also go away if we switch to the new Echo icon them in Fedora 9. The problem with yum updates checker is already in bugzilla and I agree it is a bit of a pain especially when you don't realize what's happening. As I mentioned before, the biggest aspects of a successful distribution for me are suspend/hibernate, correct screen resolution and the the ability to change the screen resolution in a GUI if it didn't configure it correctly the first time, system stability, and overall look and feel of a distribution. For me, Fedora 8 has excelled in all categories when I evaluate and review a system and I hope that Fedora continues to release versions that are put together as good as Fedora 8 has been." Rahul

Fedora 8 Review: The beauty and the beast

Hi We had a codec buddy bug which fails to show up the initial message and that in turns makes it pretty confusing. A update has already fixed it but I doubt reviewers are going to first do an update. Atleast for the games, we have a wrapper that somewhat explains the situation without pointing to the drivers or anything like that. Redhat is a major contributor to Linux and you can see that in Fedora which includes many exciting new features. Fedora 8 is very stable, the package management is one of the best out there, security is tight as always and finally the presentation have improved to make one of the best looking Gnome distributions I have seen. However in the eyes of the average desktop user Fedora fails miserably. He will have to go hunting for third party repositories to get nVidia or Ati drivers installed and then get confused by the new codec tool. He will even have to go searching the web to find out why Flash fails when trying to install it in Firefox" Rahul
