Hi, Along with the Linux kernel, another interesting tidbit. http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=x_server_contributors&nu… "There were eight major software vendors that turned up from our analysis and that included Apple, Debian, FreeBSD/NetBSD/OpenBSD, Gentoo, Mandriva, Novell, Red Hat, and Tungsten Graphics. The biggest software company contributing to the X server has been Red Hat" "In third place for the number of commits is Adam Jackson, an employee of Red Hat. Adam has just been committing to X.Org since 2004 but he represents over 9% of the total workload. Adam Jackson is serving as the X.Org 7.4 release manager." Rahul

Board Elections open on 13 June

SHORT FORM: ----------- Elections for the Fedora Project Board open at 0001 UTC on 13 June 2008 -- or about 3.5 hours from the time of this message. The voting system is available at: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/voting The voting system uses the range voting method: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Range_voting Any FAS account holder who has completed the CLA may vote in the election. Voting is open until 2359 UTC on 22 June 2008. Election results will be announced shortly thereafter. The final appointed seat on the Board will be filled after the general election as well. Thank you to all the Board members whose seats are up for election, to Nigel Jones for our new voting application, and to the community in advance, for casting their votes for Fedora leadership. LONG FORM (including nominees and other background): ---------------------------------------------------- Recently we converted one Red Hat-appointed seat to a community-elected seat, so there are now five (5) elected seats and four (4) appointed seats. To even out the Board turnover, community members have the opportunity to vote for four (4) elected seats in this election. The elected person with the fourth-highest vote total will serve a half-length term, with that seat being back up for election after the release of Fedora 10. In addition, Karsten Wade's appointment has been extended by six months. This means that after the release of Fedora 10, we will elect two seats and appoint two seats, thus returning to a turnover of roughly half the Board after each release of Fedora. The seats of current Board members Jef Spaleta, Dennis Gilmore, Chris Aillon, and Bob McWhirter are being vacated in this election. In addition, the seats of Steve Dickson and Seth Vidal, Board members appointed by Red Hat, are also being vacated. Steve is to be succeeded by Harald Hoyer, and the final appointment will be announced after the general Board elections are over. I would like to thank each of these people for the time and effort they've put into vigorously representing the entire Fedora community on the Board. The processes are documented on the Fedora wiki at: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Board/Elections In the past few days, the Board and I realized that our guidelines hadn't been updated to match the current FAS implementation, so I've updated them appropriately with the approval of the Board. The election system has changed from approval voting to range voting, but no actual changes have been made in voting requirements. The wording on the wiki has been changed to accurately reflect how the new Fedora Account System works. Announcing the "fedoraLife" Concept!

What Apple does for its OS is what Fedora should also do. Which is a collection of additional optional software that can do multimedia and enhance existing technologies. The "fedoraLife" Concept is several visuals accompanied by descriptions that will inspire many Fedora programmers to come up with programs that is missing in Fedora. What is missing in Fedora? Well, to begin with, there is no iPhoto-like software to view photos in a photo album-like setting. Another missing software is an iMovie-like application that edits video and audio from a digital source using OGG Theora or some other video codec. Another missing software is a Toast-like GUI that uses the already existing dvd/cd burning tools. And another missing software would combine Skype-like tools with a tool for Virtual Conventions/Meetings. This will be very useful in the future. This concept will make Fedora unique and more useful than all of the other Linux Distros available now. The "fedoraLife" suite won't be included in the Core installation, instead the suite or any of the components can be downloaded off the internet via Anaconda installer. Eventually, the "Everything" Spin will include the entire suite. Fedora has a bright future, don't squander it... The Concept PDF is available for downloading on my linux blog... Miro - help please

OK, I was just about to submit the channel I created to Miro to get the ball rolling on this whole idea. I've put the rss file on my fedorapeople space, and pointed the feed to Paul's GVFS video to begin with. But...I'm having issues with Miro's website and it won't let me move on to the next stage of submitting the video. So, would anybody else like to have a go at it? You literally only need to go to: https://www.miroguide.com/channels/submit And follow the steps through one by one. Half of information is auto-filled too from details in the feed itself. A few quick notes: The video feed file is: http://jonrob.fedorapeople.org/fedora-tv.xml I've called the channel Fedora TV I was planning on using the vertical Fedora logo from http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Logo/UsageGuidelines Urmm...that's about it! If somebody can do the web side stuff for me, then I'll happily manually maintain the feed for a while until we find a better solution.

Hello World!

My name is Lucas do Amaral Saboya I'm 18 years old and I live in the city of Fortaleza in Brazil close to the international airport of Fortaleza (Pinto Martins). For 4 years I was an webmaster of CEFETCE (Centro Federal de Educação Tecnologica do Ceará - Federal Technology Center of Ceará, and in this period, got my first contact with linux from Fedora Core 4, and now, I am Linux System Administrator on a research project o CEFETCE and a tranee of System Admin at the IT Departament on CEFETCE too. Since I started this new job @ this research project, I'm responsible for everything about Linux here in the project and some other things, like CD-ROM development PHP Programming and managing some servers of the IT Department too. I personally use ONLY Linux for about 4 months, but spent about 3 years on dual boot. Starting with FC4, upgraded to FC5, and FC6, and FC7, and FC8, now I user Fedora Core 9 on my notebook, and other 15 machines, between desktops, servers and thin clients. Also I got some experiences with Debian, Slackware and Ubuntu, but none of those has the same taste tha Fedora do :D, besides, it's the first Open Source OS I ever used, and never let me down with anything ! And now, that I decided to really get envolved with these linux stuff, I've subscribed in some linux courses, then I'll take some certifications, link LPI levels 1 and 2 and RHCE :) So, I think I can help this project spreading Fedora over my city.
