Introduction: Colin Zwiebel
by Colin Zwiebel
Hi, my name is *Colin Zwiebel* and I live in *Needham, MA* (near Boston). My
Fedora Account System (FAS) username is *computercolin*, and my IRC nick is
*computercolin*.
I learned about the Fedora Marketing team through *Mel Chua, *and am
interested in joining because *I love OSS, would like it to expand with
average users, and am interested in seeing how it is being marketed*.
I worked last year on OLPC for a period of time, organizing a Jam-style
event. Though I've used many Linux variants, and submit bug reports
regularly, this is my first time really contributing to a FOSS community.
This is the first Marketing project I have worked on!
My skills, which I hope to utilize in Fedora Marketing, include:
(Marketing Skills) - _Graphics, event organization_
(Other Skills) - _web-application development_
I'd also like to learn *strategy and big picturing thinking*.
When I'm not working on Fedora, I am *playing at F. W. Olin College of
Engineering*.
A couple of goals I have for the Fedora Project are
*reach more "average" users and*
*Better inspire hackers and developers to create great OSS software*.
I would also like to see
*Fedora and OSS in general become a more natural community for young
tech-oriented people to join (IE, the Facebook generation)*
I am wondering about
*the focus of F13 and how this gets set*
*how projects are organized within Fedora, who designers, developers,
leaders interact.*
If you have any tips for exploring the community, let me know!

DOCS - Communication Matrix Plan
by Nelson Marques
Hi all,
I'm attaching a sketch for a communication plan matrix. This is to be
available on http://nmarques.fedorapeople.org on marketing/docs folder.
The docs being uploaded there are basically a compilation of some notes
I have from classes and might cover lots of subjects, like:
- Communication Management;
- Product Management;
- Marketing Management;
- Culture and Market Ideology;
- Market Studies;
- Behavior Psychology;
- Corporate Communication;
Which are some of the areas of my scholar training.
The document in attachment is just a small Communication Matrix Plan,
nothing too fancy and should point the general guidelines of a
communication plan.
People are free to edit, suggest and point things out (help on the
grammar if possible and orthographic errors). I will take it as final
once it's been debated and upload it to the space specified above.
This is to be the first of many small docs I'm planning to release
there.
Thanks all,
nelson.
PS: I've pulled out that template with some artwork. If there is an
official template already, feel free to point it out.

"Welcome to Fedora" docs/video/audio
by Rakesh Pandit
Added marketing in cc (probably better place for discussion).
Does it make sense to ship a small pdf (say having a title "Welcome to
Fedora") or if possible a video for users as an introduction to our
distribution ?
If yes, because it makes sense to keep it as small/simple as possible
what should it target to achieve ?
Points out of my head are:
1. New features
2. Availability of options for just updating system for security
fixes, selected enhancements or bugfixes for some applications
3. Ways to get support/help from community - bonding
4. Feedback/reporting failures/or have suggestions etc
Also, how much sense would it make to put a slide show in installer
which highlights features/talk points ?
Regards,

F13 slogan announcement -- break up
by Paul W. Frields
Nelson and I had a good conversation this afternoon about the slogan
announcement. We realized we really need two different emails.
One is the general announcement, sent to the lists shown on the slogan
SOP. The other is a specific email sent only to the trans@ list, to
give translators context for their work in translating the slogan on
the website.
I've shown the candidate text on the slogan page here:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/F13_slogan_announcement
Robyn, if you agree with this, you can send this text out on Monday or so.

School Work - Advertising and Communication
by Nelson Marques
Hi,
I just got news that I need to make a paper about Advertising and
Communication. Since the given theme is not motivating at all, I was
thinking on making this paper based on Fedora. I haven't the paper
matrix yet, but I'm planning to share this with the list.
Would it be welcomed?
Nelson
PS: If I do it about Fedora will go for Creative Commons License.

FAD @ linux symposium?
by Robyn Bergeron
Do we have a lot of Fedora Friends attend Linux Symposium? I'm
planning on going again this year (woooooot!) - Andrew has said there
are rooms available for mini-summits / gatherings at this year's
venue, so it seemed like a good place to do one of those "Hey, we're
all going to be here, let's do something" FAD events. :)
Is this something where we just wait until it gets closer to the date
to see who is / is not going?
Oh. For reference: http://www.linuxsymposium.org/2010/ .... and I
added that event, along with LinuxCon, to the Events page under FY11
Q2.

Notes from Alpha Readiness Meeting
by Mel Chua
What I said about us at the Alpha Release Readiness Meeting (still
ongoing in #fedora-meeting as I type this, but our portion is done):
--Mel
#info Marketing is looking good; our deliverables are coming in on time
(well, the polishing of Talking Points is an ongoing process I'd hoped
would be wrapped up by now, but... I'll get my rear in gear more on that).
#link https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Marketing#Release_deliverables
#info deliverables will continue to be filled in between alpha and beta,
we hope to have them all done by beta so we can use the remaining time
in this release cycle to help other teams work on their join processes
(marketing "participation in the Fedora community," so to speak).
#info Marketing: not blocking on anyone, nor do I think we are blocking
anyone else. All set, as far as I'm concerned.
