Re: Twitter update
by Jan Wildeboer
I propose a slow migration. Announce once a week that people should follow
@fedora on both accounts and check the numbers of followers on the old
account. When the number is down enough, announce a final "this account will
soon be discontinued".
But I would keep both synced forever minus a day. Doesn't cost us, so why
bother too much?

Someone suggested this to me elsewhere. Leaving aside the issue of
whether Twitter would help do this at all, the question I had was,
would we run a risk of people thinking we were violating some sort of
norm or etiquette by changing their subscription without permission?
If we were Nike, I'd bet no one would care. Fedora's follower crowd
probably has different expectations than Nike fans.

Twitter update
by Paul W. Frields
We now have the @fedora Twitter account reassigned to us. Obviously I
don't want to just put the password here :-) but let's discuss the
next steps. A couple things I'd recommend:
* Establish an @fp.o email alias so that when the account receives
email it goes to one or more people responsible for reading and
acting on it.
* Adding the account to HootSuite or whatever tool we plan to use to
manage it. Ensure that more than one person has the ability to do
that addition and other HS management.
* Figure out a plan for transitioning followers from @fedora_linux to
@fedora.

[In the news] Review of Fedora 13 on my ThinkPad thingy
by Rahul Sundaram
Hi
http://rubenerd.com/fedora-13-on-my-thinkpad
"Firstly, kudos to the Fedora team for continuing to reduce their
dependency on Mono! Fedora 12 implemented the beautiful Gnote in place
of Tomboy, and with 13 they replaced F-Spot with Shotwell. I have to
admit I’d never heard of the Vala language until I read up about
Shotwell, it looks really interesting and the perfect antidote to Mono
which has always made me feel uneasy. Could Gnome finally be able to
compete with KDE and Qt in this regard now?
And of course I’m delighted that a fully featured Python 3.0 stack is
now available in the default install! Granted my primary Python haunt is
Django, but my personal scripts have been running on 3.0 on my Mac for a
long while now, so it’ll be great to port them over."

SWOT update
by Nelson Marques
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Marketing/SWOT
Brief Description:
1. Introduction > should display the following information:
# What is a SWOT
# Goals of a SWOT
# Methodology
2. SWOT Analysis.
2.1 Internal Environment > Factors that fully controlable by the Fedora
Project management. Will be splitted into Strengths and Weaknesses and
evaluated under the 5M Methodology: Men, Means, Methods, Machines,
Measurables.
2.2 External Analysis > Unlike the Internal Analysis, this factors are not
under the management control and are mainly things we can react upon.
Provides Threats and Opportunities, evaluated under 4 topics:
- Political and Legal Factors
- Social and Demographic Factors
- Technological Factors
- Economical Factors
I've taken the liberty of adding "Comparative Analysis" to provide in-depth
information.
3. Marketing Mix > This is not a typical part of a SWOT, but it is important
on this context and will help later for the production of the Marketing
Plan, as the Marketing Mix is for sure one of it's requirements. The
relevance of such information qualifies in my scope for this type of
document.
Goals with this document:
1. Provide a solid basis for future documents and define it's methodology so
that later on people can take it easilly and understand the concept behind a
SWOT.
2. Provide a real workable document and a more serious approach into Fedora
Project.
Personal note: I've established 48 hours to myself to accomplish this. Given
the rich contents we have and some other ideas that came along while typing
what is already done, I've decided to abandon any schedule, instead just go
working it out.

[In the news] Fedora 13 Review
by Rahul Sundaram
Hi
http://www.software-latest.com/2010/06/01/fedora-13.html
"Fedora 13 is especially a turning point in terms of installation
method. The BFO project allows you to download an ISO of smaller size
and launching an installation via Internet. This is undoubtedly one of
the most demanding features. The choice of default applications seems
also far more consistent than Ubuntu. For example Pino instead of
Gwibber (which is much easier to use) Shotwell instead of Gthumb and Fspot.
In short, Fedora 13 leaves once again a good impression. For
professionals, has better performance than other popular distributions
and for home users Ubuntu or Linux Mint which are perhaps more intuitive
to begin working with Linux. Only regret, too long and unworthy startup
time of a modern Linux distribution. But in the world of Linux, personal
taste matters more."

RH Summit Press Kit: release v.0.1 (alpha)
by Mel Chua
I took a quick first pass through creating a press kit for the Summit:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/F13_press_kit#Red_Hat_Summit_2010
This mostly involved remixing existing content into printable form.
Please rip this apart, report bugs, etc. :) What's missing? I'm trying
to follow the https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Press_kit_SOP as best as I
can. Right now it is just the one page release notes combined with the
printable version of feature profiles.
We may additionally want a project overview sheet (perhaps the flyer
that's already going to be distributed at the booth - though I'm not
sure which one that is) and a contact-information sheet. We have
neither, at the moment.
John Rose (cc'd) has kindly offered to handle the printing and delivery
logistics, since he's going to be running off flyers and such for the
Summit anyhow. Thanks, John! This means we need to give him a final
count of how much of what to print - Paul (or others), how many press
kits do we want to make? (John, any particular deadline for the final
count and final files?)
I'm willing to do more work on this if someone pings me back with a
request, but by default I'll be leaving things the way they are, so poke
me if you'd like to see more done. ;)
