We often get inquiries from magazines asking for permission to bundle one
or more Fedora discs with a future issue. This is a fairly routine
process as long as the disc is an unmodified copy of Fedora media (i.e. an
official release). Some interaction with Red Hat Legal is required to
send out an agreement to the magazine.
We can speed up that interaction and the overall process if we have a page
that tells magazines what they need to provide, and to whom, for a
covermount agreement. Generally we need the following information, sent
to the ''press(a)fp.o'' address:
* The name (d/b/a) and address of the company producing the magazine
* The exact disc(s) that are to be bundled
* Contact information for the person making the request

I had suggested this earlier to Robyn -- a press blog entry for Red Hat's
PR channel (http://press.redhat.com) that would synopsize and point to our
interview on the wiki. However, Robyn's pretty busy right now. Kara
Schiltz from Red Hat's PR department is willing to publish something next
week.
I'm going to pick this up and drive it forward, my way of helping this
week on something Marketing related!

Hi,
Could we have a press-release for FUDCon KL 2012 which is happening this
May?. We are planning to distribute it to local newspapers and news sites.
We are originally planning to produce our own but FPL said that marketing
might want to do and approve it.
In term of dateline, .. erm .. is 27th March too short?, or more than
enough?. The earlier the better of course
Thanks.

Insight and Fedora Weekly News
by Ruth Suehle
A group of interested people gathered today to discuss breathing some
new life into Fedora Weekly News (minutes below). What we concluded was
that we'd actually like to breathe some life into Insight and for FWN to
become an arm of that. To expound, here's the proposal:
- suehle, jbrooks, and iambryan have volunteered as editors
- We'd like to expand Insight to be more blog, web-magazine-style with:
- Short, informative content like you might think of FWN for
- Longer form stories, interviews, and articles
- The technical content that Fedora used to create to some extent
for Red Hat Magazine (which is in high demand but no longer exists)
- Cultivated content from Planet
- The content that Insight was already meant for, like Board
meeting minutes or announcements
- Fedora Weekly News would then become the weekly email newsletter of
highlights from what had been published on Insight that week.
- We'd like to see at least two writers/cultivators-of-content per beat
What we're looking for now is for someone to shout, "good idea!", "bad
idea!", or "I was already halfway through with something like that!"
before we continue down the path. "I'd like to help with a beat!" is
also a good answer. :-)
Thanks!
Ruth

Self-Introduction: Keshav Kumar
by Keshav Kumar
Hello everyone, my name is Keshav Kumar and I am currently living in Chennai,India persuing B Tech degree at SRM chennai. My Fedora Account System(FAS)is keshavmishra and my IRC nickname is also keshavmishra.
I have been a user of Fedora OS for about an year and being an open source enthusiast i keep trying different distros and now i am stuck to this project of red hat fedora. While going through this fedora wiki on how we can contribute to fedora community , i got to know about this fedora marketing team.
My work experience with Free/Libre Open Source Software is limited to using it and promoting it among friends and my college and community and debugging their problems(if any).If selected, this will be my first marketing project that I will be working on.
Hi, my name is Keshav Mishra and I live in Chennai,India. My Fedora Account System (FAS) username is kesahvmishra, and my IRC nick is keshavmishra
I learned about the Fedora Marketing team through the wikis on the fedora wibsite, and am interested in joining because neing a linux enthusiast, I like to convince my college mates and my local community to take advantage of free open source software..
This is the first FOSS project I have worked on!
This is the first Marketing project I have worked on!
My skills, which I hope to utilize in Fedora Marketing, include:
(Marketing Skills) - I consider myself as good orator and I am kind of a guy who can convince people.
(Other Skills) :
*blogger: I am a blogger whose are of interest is seo(traffic optimisation),open source tutorials @ http://idevelogy.com
* event management: I have been involved in arranging conferences in my department at my college related to quiz, gaming coding etc.
I'd also like to learn how to promote open source at a large scale and use social sites to combine the power of F/L OSS enthusiasts .
When I'm not working on Fedora, I am a student at srm college.
A couple of goals I have for the Fedora Project are increasing the fedora volunteers among my community and motivate people to promote free software and encourage open source technologies. I would also like to see a area wise physical community happen in Fedora.
I am wondering about how to start for working the marketing team..
Please help me get started!

Will Project Fedora run on the fedora project? ;-)
by Jan Wildeboer
Not sure if we should act here with the full legal force (please DO
NOT!) or if it would be better to contact them and discuss a possible
release on Fedora as tip of the hat.

Marketing team meeting agenda for Thursday, Nov, 29th @ 3 pm EST (8 pm UTC)
by Sarah White
Marketing team meeting
When: Thursday, Nov. 29 @ 3pm EST (8pm UTC)
Where: #fedora-meeting channel
Please don't hesitate to participate in this meeting - marketing experience
is not required!
There's been lots of questions and ideas proposed in various email threads
recently so I gathered them into one email so they weren't lost and we
could discuss them further during the weekly marketing meeting. The name(s)
following the ideas and questions refer to the person who proposed it.
1. Discuss "I am number 18" campaign -Bogomil
2. Better coordination of our presence in social media. I'm currently
running Fedora Project's page at Google+, which works fine, but we don't
really have any official account at Facebook for example. -eischmann
3. More leaflets with information about Fedora. We've made leaflets about
free graphic tools (GIMP, Inkscape,...) that you can find it Fedora, but
I'd like to see more. For example leaflets about Ruby, Java, Python,... in
Fedora with information why Fedora is a great platform for developing in a
particular language. We could take such materials to conferences such as
EuroPython, RuPy to promote Fedora among developers. This task would
require coordination between our language team (to provide info what
advantages and tools Fedora provides) and our design team to put the info
together and create leaflets. -eischmann
4. Document tips and things to remember as far as working with the Fedora
community for the Red Hat PR folks. Things like where you can always find
Fedora's mission statement, the schedule, etc., as well as "please don't do
this" type of stuff. -rbergeron
5. What is Fedora's role to different audiences beyond developing and
testing new technology for Red Hat products. - inode0
6. Who is ultimately responsible for ensuring release announcements go out
the door? -Johann
7. Create or complete alpha and beta announcement SOP. -rbergeron
8. Review and update/complete marketing SOP. -rbergeron and jreznik
9. Guide/wiki page for news sources, bloggers, etc. to educate people
regarding Fedora and Red Hat's relationship. - jreznik
10. Explain "in marketing way" the delays behind F18 release (where the
slip announcements are not very useful) to community - jreznik
11. What are the places, internally and externally, we send Beta
announcement? - jreznik
12. Create and maintain our own extensive database of contacts. -johann
13. One way to confront shortages in contributors is to send our cool
Fedora contributors out to where they congregate. So I wonder if there are
some marketing events that might provide us an opportunity to do just that?
- inode
Cheers,
Sarah
