[fedora-marketing] Issue #248 `Create a education-focused marketing campaign`
by Justin W. Flory
jflory7 reported a new issue against the project: `fedora-marketing` that you are following:
``
**Originally discussed in [2017-02-14 meeting](https://meetbot.fedoraproject.org/fedora-meeting/2017-02-14/mark...
# Summary
Similar to the [Fedora <3 Python](https://fedoralovespython.org/) campaign, the Marketing Team should organize a campaign targeted towards an education type of audience (students, professors, faculty, teachers, etc.).
# Analysis
This was a long discussion in our meeting, and before summarizing it, it's important to have some context of other similar things where this has been discussed or has been focused on already.
* [Fedora Objective: University Involvement Initiative](https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Objectives/University_Involvem...
* [Original EDU FAD 2016 plans](https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FAD_EDU_2016)
* [EDU refresh - raw notes](http://etherpad.osuosl.org/fedora-EDU-refresh)
* [CommOps ticket 43: EDU Roster](https://pagure.io/fedora-commops/issue/43)
There's no easy way to summarize this one. But in short, we identified the unique success of the [Fedora <3 Python](https://fedoralovespython.org/) campaign in appealing to a unique niche of our broader audience of users. Ideally, we would like to craft a similar campaign that focuses more closely at a university / education type of audience.
### How to move forward
We established a strong interest and some general directions for how to proceed for this, but we will want to establish some sort of planning milestones and also circulate this idea with other groups. This would make a good candidate for something to share our more complete thoughts with the Fedora Council with, as per ticket #246, to get their input and feedback.

Where to put press kits: GitHub or Pagure?
by Justin W. Flory
Hey all,
Apologies for the delay in getting this thread started so late. In our
last meeting, we discussed the idea of integrating "press kits" more
fully into the Marketing workflow for each release. A press kit is a
deliverable we would prepare each release cycle, and also has the
benefit of having concrete activities that would need to be consistently
completed each release cycle (which makes it easy to document the
process and to help others contribute to these tasks).
Using a public git forge or public platform for the press kit is a good
way to promote our content and encourage community contributions, while
also making sure our work and content is easily findable and revisable.
One concern I had was where we decide to host this content. Pagure is
the default choice for any git repository in Fedora, but I also want to
be cognizant that git can be an intimidating tool for someone who is not
normally a technical person, and marketing is usually a non-technical
area of the project. Because of this, I think there are special concerns
to take into consideration when choosing a platform for where we want to
host our content.
Because of these reasons, I felt like GitHub might make a more intuitive
place to host the press kits than Pagure because of the benefit of
having a web editor where people can make quick edits or revisions, and
then easily submit those as a pull request. Having a tool like this
enables someone who has never played with git or isn't familiar with it
(but still has ideas to contribute) to have their input and contribute
to the content we host in the press kit.
Does anyone have any other thoughts about where we want to put our press
kits? We can discuss this in the meeting today too, but I wanted to try
to get this out earlier as a precursor to any discussion. Thanks!

[Minutes] [2017-02-28] Press kit discussion, talking points
by Justin W. Flory
Hey all! This week's meeting just came to a close, although we are still
continuing in #fedora-mktg. We mostly focused on building / generating
our press kits and what that will like (in terms of what we're including
and how it would fit into our release schedule) along with our talking
points (although we're more or less discussing this part in channel now).
Thanks everyone for participating, see you in channel or at next week's
meeting!

* AGREED: Marketing team will host press kit in Pagure (which *does*
have a web editor!) and use Markdown as default markup language,
which will also fit into our existing workflow with other repos we
have on Pagure (jwf, 14:31:29)
* What's in a press kit? We suggested: one-page release notes,
background modules (general Fedora info), feature modules (specific
to releases), past press coverage, targeted brochures / flyers
(jwf, 14:32:48)
* ACTION: FranciscoD / bkp Discuss and draft a short proposal of what
one-page release announcements looks like for the press kit, with
(1) timeline for when they should be created during the release, (2)
type of content to include in the announcement, and (3) how it
should be delivered (jwf, 14:50:03)
* ACTION: jwf Draft a simple proposal for what background modules /
past press coverage should be in the press kit, add comment to
ticket #242 for discussion at next meeting (jwf, 14:51:31)

14:51:54)
* LINK: https://pagure.io/fedora-marketing/issue/245 (jwf, 14:51:58)
* Talking points officially start today, now that the change window is
closed for Fedora 26. We're still awaiting feedback from the
Council, but we try starting with the raw data that is on the
existing talking points page and try to organize that in a way that
we can work with? We can also try to task outreach to different WGs
/ SIGs, but this depends on if we want to collect information by
technical grouping or by audience. (jwf, 14:52:03)
* LINK: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_26_talking_points
(jwf, 14:52:35)

* LINK:
https://fedorapeople.org/groups/schedule/f-26/f-26-marketing-tasks.html
(jwf, 15:01:46)
* (1) Change Checkpoint: Completion deadline (Tue 2017-02-28) (jwf,
15:01:51)
* (2) Create Talking Points (start: Tue 2017-02-28) (jwf, 15:01:55)
* (3) Proposed Changes Profiles (start: Tue 2017-03-07) (jwf,
15:01:59)
* (4) Email WGs to solicit bullet points for Alpha release
announcement (start: Thu 2017-03-09) (jwf, 15:02:05)
* Open floor - skipping since we're over time, heading to #fedora-mktg

Spin Your Exhibit marketing ideas
by Jeff Sandys
I am Fedora Ambassador Jeff Sandys and gave a presentation called Spin Your
Exhibit at Fedora Rochester. The main idea is that we want to give the
Linux Fest guest an experience they will remember. By focusing on a spin we
can focus the experience. While some guests are not interested in music or
games, many are. Guests for music could experience playing instruments,
guests for games could experience a TuxCart tournament or play other games.
The swag we give guests should be associated with their experience, we gave
guitar picks and TuxCart entry cards to guests. If a guest tells a friend
about their Fedora experience we succeeded in making a connection.
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Spin_Your_Exhibit
I hope the marketing team will take a look at my Spin Your Exhibit
presentation and consider how we can improve the value of Fedora’s
conference and Linux Fest presence and sponsorship.
Thanks,
Jeff Sandys

Intro and Cube
by Alexandre Moine
Hi all,
My name is Alexandre, I am a student in computer sciences and I am a
fedora packager and ambassador here in France.
I first wanted to translate the Fedora Cheat Cube [1] to use it in our
events, but the Cube seems to need some love.
I have updated an old ticket opened by Ankur Sinha [2] based on duff'y
comments and Ankur work, please tell me if there is anything that I can
do to update/rework it.
For the translation, I don't know if it's possible to automatize
text-getting with some svg voodoo... But it will help us!
Thank you in advance,
Alexandre
Ps: I had never done anything with Inkscape before, so there certainly
some things to say!

Introducing myself
by Ankit R Gadiya
Hey,
I'm Ankit R Gadiya. I'm 17, I'm a linux and open-source enthusiast. I'd
like to contribute to Fedora Project whenever I can. And I'd like to start
it by writing articles for Fedora Magazine. So, I'd love to become the
author of Fedora Magazine.
As a matter of Fact I've already wrote my first article and Pitched. TBH
I'm not very familiar with the process though as this is the first time I'm
going to write articles collaboratively.
As a matter of fact I already wrote my first article.

Brief: Its about getting hands on i3-wm on Fedora machine. It also include
few must have configurations to make day-to-day tasks easier.
Thanks
