Hi Charles!
we have done something very similar to this in the past with the How do you Fedora? series:
I think this is a good discussion to have - Ryan and I talked earlier this month about rebooting the series as well.
Firstly, I mentioned a while ago somewhere that I wasn't sure if this would be most appropriate for the Magazine or maybe the Community Blog (being like a community hub). However, I personally came to the conclusion that I think these articles targeted towards interviewing Fedora contributors isn't exclusively in the interest of the contributor community, and I think even regular users who aren't involved as contributors will enjoy a series about seeing how some Fedora "regulars" use the distro, and maybe learn a few tips and tricks about customizing their environment or getting involved with the Project. So, yes, I think Magazine is most appropriate for these!
Secondly, I definitely think popping some drafts up there is a good idea. I'm all for continuing this under the "How do you Fedora?" namesake since we still have that as a category in the Magazine. In terms of the proposed questions, I like them, but I also think it's a good idea to include some targeted questions towards how contributors use Fedora too - even before I was involved, I remember reading these articles and finding it interesting how the "experts" were using Fedora. I think adding some of those questions into the mix of Project-focused questions is a good idea.
Any other thoughts on this?

Justin:
I can see it being a reboot of the How do you Fedora or more of a 'get to know people' angle. If it is more former then we need to ask some questions about what they use Fedora to accomplish and then how they do it. I would be willing to assist in any way I can to produce some articles.
Thanks for your thoughts and guidance as I get involved in the Fedora Community.

I see what you're saying. Hmmm. I think that this can still go both ways. The Fedora Magazine comes with a larger audience of users of Fedora and others in the Linux world, and I think adding some more personal details like how they got involved with the Fedora community is an excellent idea to the series. At the same time, I think people would be interested to know how they use Fedora as a distro. Doesn't have to be the primary focus, but I think both sides of the story can be integrated.
No problem, I'm always glad to help, Charles.

I think the "How Do You Fedora" resurgence is probably more tightly in keeping with the intended audience of the Magazine overall. So my vote is for that.
I really love the idea of getting some more of those articles into play, because they really do help put a human face on a distro and project.

Two things. 1. I do not want to step on Ryan's toes and do stories that are exactly like his unless he is OK with that. 2. I think I understand the goal of the magazine a little bit better now, but want to confirm. The focus is on how to 'do things' with Fedora. So, personal stories should have an element of what that person does with Fedora. Is that accurate? Thanks,

In a sense, yes. I wouldn't say it's only about how to "do things" but the articles for the Magazine are definitely strongly oriented towards the everyday user, both beginners and experts. They may use Fedora often and keep up to date on major news on the Project, but they may not be contributors. Articles that are more specific to contributors in the Project (with some exceptions) are better targeted for the CommBlog.
Examples of past articles we have run are "how-to" articles, news reports about events involving Fedora, calls for helping test things in Fedora, and explanations of technologies available in Fedora.
I hope that helps clarify the purpose of the Magazine a bit. Let us know if you have any other questions!

No toe-stepping at all! would love to see more in the How do you Fedora? series :)

Awesome. I will get to work on sending out the questions to people and putting some articles together. I look forward to working with you and the Fedora Magazine team to produce and publish the articles.
If there are suggestions of people to profile please let me know.
Thanks,

Here is the email that i was sending out to people:
------------------------------------------------------------------ Thanks for contacting us at the Fedora Magazine! Would you be keen to tell your story as part of our "How do you Fedora?"[1] series?
Be sure to check out a few of the ones that we have already done like Major Hayden[2] and Maria Leandro[3] for a guide on how these are typically written. We typically try to avoid bullet-point lists of hardware and software -- it is much more interesting to explain what software you use and why rather than listing a bunch of application names.
Here are the set of questions:
1. Who are you, and what do you do. This can cover a range of things including your day job, hobbies, and if you contribute to Fedora, explain what teams you are a part of, and any other details like packages you maintain. Probably also list here how long you have been using Fedora too, and maybe some background as to why and what you switched from.
2. What hardware do you use? This would include both for your desktop(s), and any servers / cloud stuff you have anywhere to get your job(s) done. Details like mouse / keyboard / monitors / laptops used are good here too, and maybe a little bit on how well they work on Fedora.
3. What software? Probably start out with what version(s) of Fedora you are running, and should really build on what you listed in 2. including details like the text editor you use in certain contexts, the desktop you use, any tweaks you do to your desktop to make it easier, and any other software you use to get the job done.
Also, a photo of you to include in the post, the wider the better. We try to crop them to 945x400 pixels for display in our theme. Any screenshots of your software / hardware setup might be useful too (if you are willing to share).
plain text (or markdown) is probably the best way to get it back to me, and be sure to include links for the software that you use too :)
cheers, ryanlerch

Yes, I read those pieces and liked them a great deal after Justin Flory pointed them out to me when I discussed my idea on the commblog irc channel. Very well written articles that further inspired me to submit the idea to the Fedora Magazine.
