#197: LiveUSB Creator - screenshots, text --------------------+------------------------- Reporter: mbriza | Owner: Type: task | Status: new Priority: minor | Milestone: Component: other | Severity: not-urgent Keywords: | Blocked By: Blocking: | --------------------+------------------------- Hey everyone,
I've been working on a new frontend for the liveusb-creator for a little while and I'd like to ask for some help and assistance if that's okay I'm implementing the design done by jimmac [0], not what mizmo has written in her issue on github, but i keep her remarks in mind.
However, to finish the task, I'm lacking some stuff, or source where to obtain it, namely: 1) source of marketing text for the products and spins to include in the app to describe what is provided 2) source of screenshots to download and display below the descriptions
Please see [0] to get a better idea of how the material will be used. Also please note there will be no other OS or distribution provided (in contrary to the screenshot). The idea is to show just Workstation, Server and Cloud along with the possibility to provide your own .iso on the main page and all the spins and other variants when you unwrap the list.

Hello,
not sure to understand your request, sorry.
Does it make sense copying text from https://getfedora.org/en/ and http://spins.fedoraproject.org/en/about for other spins?
For screenshot, what do you mean exactly?

+1 to using the getfedora.org text.
Screenshots can be had from https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Marketing/F21_Screenshots (and from https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/F20_screenshots_library if you want to support that).

The same for spins, use spins.fedoraproject.org - unfortunately the new spins web is not yet live.

WOuld it be possible to get a list of the descriptions / screenshots required?
or is it just the 3 flavours -- workstation, server and cloud?
Also, not sure how useful screenshots for server and cloud are going to be in this instance too...

Cloud doesn't really make sense, at least until some cloud provider allows image upload by mailing in a USB stick. :)

'''Regarding the material'''
Regarding copying text and screenshots - that doesn't really scale for the next releases and overall for the package itself. Including the stuff in the binary by hand may be easy at first but with the following releases, there will have to be a guy who downloads the data and puts it into the application. With some heuristic, at least the screenshots seem to be retrievable from the wiki.
I'd like to have a place where the material like this will be stored, ready to be downloaded somehow automatically. It's a lot to ask though, since it requires us to build infrastructure to deliver it.
Jeischma suggested I could put up an OpenShift instance and host the stuff myself. I'm certainly not opposed but I can imagine a number of reasons why you would be against it.

'''Regarding what images we provide'''
Yeah, it provides Cloud - it at least downloads it, that can probably be useful. But on the other hand there could be other images on the main screen. But how to decide which ones? In which order? Currently, it's basically determined by the download.fp.org parser.
I'd like to open a discussion regarding the final look of the app on a public list but my emails seem to not generate any kind of response anywhere...

IMHO we should edit the [https://fedorapeople.org/groups/schedule/f-22/f-22-marketing-tasks.html mktg tasks] in order to insert also this job.

Right, what do you think about a dedicated wiki page starting from [https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Category:Marketing here]? We have the task for the screenshots already, perhaps we can add the text in the page.

I really don't know which list is the best, I haven't seen any mail in the mktg list about this topic; is it possible it's my fault?

Comment (by mbriza):
So, with the redesign of the Spins and Labs sites, I got exactly what I needed. I've written a parser of those sites to get the text. Also I get text from getfedora.org for the main products. The only thing left to resolve are the screenshots/images for the main Products and also which ones to leave on the front screen.
