Hi, at last year's Flock I announced Fedora Handbook (a "getting started with Fedora" guide that is printed and can be give away at event etc.). Because it was created in the Czech community, the original is in Czech. The handbook was very successful at Czech events, so we translated it to English, so that it could be used abroad and translated to other languages. We have initial English translation, but it's rough and it needs a lot of proofreading and rewriting which is something that needs to be done by a native speaker. It's written in AsciiDoc, easily readable and editable format: https:// github.com/lukaskotek/fedora-handbook-doc
Any volunteer to help? It'd be great to have it finished and printed for Flock 2016. All I need is final text, we'll take care of typesetting and printing.
Jiri
Though I am not a native English speaker, I am a Technical Writer at Red Hat and can probably help with this project. Let me know if I can be of any help and I will begin working on it accordingly.

Hi, you can just fork the repo, make changes and do a pull request. It'd be good to let others know what you're working now right now to prevent situations when several people are working on the same text.

Can you help clarify the target market for this document?

It's for users who are new to Linux and know very little about Linux and Fedora. It's stuff we give to users at our conference booth when we shortly introduce Fedora to someone and he/she wants to learn more. Or we give it to high school/university students at events such as Open House: Wanna start with Linux? Take this, it should help you get started.
So it should get a user from learning about Fedora at our booth/event to having it installed on their computers. It doesn't aim to provide comprehensive docs of Fedora. Just basic info about concepts, our values, advantages of Fedora, where to get it, how to install it, how to install apps, how the desktop works, where to find more info/help.

Hi!
Once I get my laptop back I can translate some parts to Spanish if it's that OK for you.

Now that we have several languages becoming possible, should we talk to the Fedora Translators about how to best manage this?

I think it would be a good idea to reach out the G11n team once there is a solid English version ready. Some of their team members may be able to advise more about how to go about proceeding with this.

Hey Jona, this is a good question that I do not have the answer for... :) However, I've directly CC'd Jiri to this email as he is the most qualified person to answer this.
I've also CC'd the Translation mailing list, since I feel like this is a discussion that might also be relevant there, depending on how far along the English one is. For anyone just seeing this, this link might help explain the idea better:

Sorry for the slow response here.

Hi Justin, the handbook has its repo on Github: https://github.com/lukaskotek/fedora-handbook-doc
Unfortunately it still hasn't been fully translated to English. We've failed to finish it mainly due to lack of time. Anyway, I think the handbook needs to be updated anyway because the English translations are of the original version written in 2015. We're already preparing an updated version in Czech, but it may be better to update the English version first, make it the master and translate that to other languages. To Czech, too, not the other way around. Brian said he'd volunteer to hook it up with Zanata once the English version is finished.
Jiri
Greetings, Jiri. I think this project crossed my eyes on anoher post where Master J(ustin) was also included. And im sorry if insisting on this tonic, but how can I start to translate it to Portuguese-PT? I do realize that it’s not fully english translated, but it would be good to start working on it from what we got already (:
Please, Please do let me know if and how I can help. it’s one of the most clever ideas to make fedora more friendly for everyone.
Regards.
