Why not define some categories (if you don't already have them) of the
types of articles you typically post, and the design team can develop
some artwork to represent each category?
I like Mizmo's idea, we could create different images, according to our
categories. At the beginning we could make artwork only for the "General
News" and "Development News" as these categories are the most used.
I also like the icons that we use now, as featured image in our posts
(eg. Vote, Time is up (for the F18 EOL)). +1 to whoever changed them ;)
