30 minutes presentation

Hai there,

These days, Im kinda busy, It might happen I wont be present for
tomorrow's meeting.

Tomorrow, I have a 30 minutes presentation to first year undergraduate
kids at my university.

The theme (For me) will be LIVE CDs, the overall topic is "opensource and you"

I built a livecd, added gcc and man pages as my lecturer wished.
There will be 12 copies of this livecd available which will be
launched on our lab's computers. Eventually if someone wants to have a
copy, will have one too.

The presentations will be held in a computer lab which can accommodate
about 25-30 humans.

Afterwards, there might be a chance the afterwards my uni will give my
access to host my livecds :)
but that's only words for the moment, we'll see afterwards.

for the package list, the wiki doesn't seem to like the list b'coz it
threw python exception over me. Ill see afterwards to add it again.

REPORT:

My presentation was due to start at 0930 yesterday, but it happened
that the last conference ended at 0950.

but it also happened that one of my friend couldn't make it. His
conference was on "C Language and text editors".

Ive volunteered to replace him, and Ive merged his conference into
mine. The overall duration was 1h45min

I did my Kadischi/LiveCD presentation as expected.
Some knew what a livecd is and other didn't which brought in a variety
of questions. But most of the questions was related to The Fedora
Project itself, might be because i used the Bob's impress template. :)

Ive ended my Kadischi/Livecd presentation with giving links about
different Fedora Projects with respect to the questions asked.

I've allowed 5-10 minutes pause
Afterwards, Ive started with the theme "C language and Text editors",
it was fair easy to explain different text editor and IDEs available
in Fedora Core and Fedora Extras, as least those Ive installed.
Luckily I found nedit in Extras before that presentation.

Being myself a fan of KDevelop, I've "nudified" KDevelop and Kwrite as
far as I can, anjuta in FC5 Extras was broken, its installation went
fine but It doesn't allow the creation of any blank page at all. Ill
file this afterwards to bugzilla.

kate, kedit , vi , gedit , emacs and nedit were also among the actors.
Nervertheless, this presentation ended with fews questions but I felt
many will go home to install KDevelop. :)

In the end, I was requested to organise an install party this
saturday, 01, April 2006.
Up to now, those who are subscribed for tomorrow's install party are:
8 for Fedora Core 5
1 for Debian - Sarge
3 need assistance for Mandriva 2006

So about this install party:
- will be held at my place, at 1600 to midnight
- will have assistance of one of my friend (fedora user), Michael
- Ill provide free FC5 DVD to each one who wants to install FC5

Since a while Im giving off free dvds to my surroundings ( hand to
hand ), should I add my name to FreeMedia though I can't afford to
post DVDs across neighbouring towns/cities?

Thanks for the report. yes as long as you can even a single set of
CD's/DVD you can sign up for the freemedia project and list. It is a
volunteer program. Nothing is *required* of you.

My presentation on Thursday was followed by an Install party, which I
hosted at my place.
The Install party was extended for two days, instead of the initial
planned "1600 to midnight" on Saturday.
Besides the install party, the objective was to install certain
development tools such kdevelop, anjuta .....

Saturday : at 1600
Everyone was right on time :) without free space allocated for the install. :(
Every one (7 in all) who was willing to give FC5 a try got a Free FC5
DVD from me, even the guy who was willing to install debian got my
LinuxTag's debian dvd for free. But it happens that during the
hardware detection, debian wasn't fruitful, so I handed him my Ubuntu
Breezy cd, which I got at LinuxWorldExpo in Frankfurt.

I made myself a fool when I told that anaconda can resize their NTFS
partition. I always thought anaconda could do that. Is it because of
patents ? Anyway, thanks to ThomasCanniot on #fedora-fr, I got myself
a gparted livecd which resize partitions like a charm.

Ill advise anyone who is planning an Install Party to acquire a
gparted livecd from http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php
You'll thank me afterwards for the time you will save just for
resizing ntfs partitions.

at about 1800 the real installation started, everyone fired their
installation dvd/cd into their players.

Anaconda eased the pressure/stress of each participant. Well done,
Anaconda. My assistance was only solicited during the partitioning
section. If not, the installation worked like a breeze except for one
particular participant. His laptop (P3 1.2GHz) couldn't bear the
installation, and shuts down automatically due to overheat. Several
attempts did not prove to be successful. But nevertheless, he asked
whether the next day (i.e Sunday) I could install FC5 on his desktop.

Another user was too stupid to choose a proper keyboard layout, hence
the root password was unknown after the installation. He started
again.

Concerning Ubuntu's installation, well it's a real pain in the neck
for swap creation.
"Linux for human beings" ??? here it didn't prove to be !!
Nevertheless, in Dapper Drake, there might be something more gui :

Unlike Fedora's choice of packages, installation of development tools 
in Ubuntu requires internet = TIME !
What's funny is that "make" isn't installed on a fresh Ubuntu and the
search option of synaptic can't find "make".

At 0200 (sunday), we decided to continue the install party in the
afternoon along with the other desktop installation.

FC5 installation in this desktop, proved to be buggy!!
But after a quick search on fedoraforum.org, everything went smooth :)
Even the installation of ati drivers from livna.org worked like a
breath with SELinux=Disabled.

Being myself NOT really a big fan of the "deb" community, I didn't
show any negative attitude to the Ubuntu community during this event.

You cant do resizing without reading the partitions. So the same issues
apply.

There is a RFE to test the layout before confirming precisely to avoid
this problem.

but are they any scripts from the Fedora project, if possible, which
might gather a maximum of hardware information for troubleshooting /
sending to bugzilla ?
