At FUDCon, one of the things that I loved was hearing peoples' stories of how they got involved with Fedora. Could it be a good marketing campaign (aiming to attract new contributors) to collect and publish these somewhere? Maybe this could somehow be related to Mairin's "I am Fedora" videos as well.
By the way, does the marketing team usually work on specific campaigns (with specific goals and targets)? Would this be a good way to organize marketing work better?
What do you think? Ricky
I would be willing to setup a blog on my personal domain name for us touse to collaborate an drive contribution.

I think it's a great idea. Nothing like hearing from passionate guys to raise passion on others. Making videos would definitely be a way to go.
One thing I think is missing is a way, a channel, to reach common people, simple users, not just people working with Fedora Project. I find Read Hat Magazine a great idea, and such a light approach to market and be in touch with simple end users. Posting such videos there from time to time would certainly make lists like this bigger =)

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but I recall seeing a discussion of 'User Stories' back a few months. There seemed to be very little response, but hey, its worth trying again I suppose.
Here's the thread I found on the mailing list:
https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-marketing-list/2008-April/msg00059.ht...
And I did a quick search on the wiki and found this:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/UserTestimonials
Hope these things help.
Cheers,
Clint
I personally don't find the Fedora wiki well structured enough for a "outsider" to nagivate smoothly. Before collecting any story we should think about how/where to publish them. Again, I think a Red Hat Magazine approach would be much more effective.

Yeah, maybe we could publish it @ www.redhatmagazine.com, but we have to talk with guys like Paul W. Frields I think and ask if something like that would be possible.
Cheers, Pawel

The people at RHM are very nice and I'm sure would be more than willing to help us out. I've written a few things that they've posted for me, and I'm sure they'll do the same in the future too :)
Hopefully though, in the not too distant future we'll have our own Fedora solution, there's just a few loose ends to iron out and a work flow to be figured out so that we can pull some of the marketing stuff together (contributor stories, interviews etc) with FWN - at least this is what I'm hoping to achieve!
Best,
Jon

Right -- I'm very happy about our work with RHM but relying on them for a constantly growing pool of stories that we want to maintain may be the wrong way to leverage what's essentially a regularly changing feed. Rather, we want that pool to be around in a growable but persistent way that's attractive to existing or potential contributors.
+1 Paul
We should have a channel specifically for Fedora, from newbies to intermediates mainly, I think. Even because RHM have lots of other things other than Linux. I agree RHM could help us posting some of our most important articles, but we shouldn't depend on them.
Just one thing: I don't mean a channel to publish stories, it's much more general. Posting tips, news, bugfix, articles, etc.

No doubt RedHat is Sporting Fedora in a way, But I believe Fedora should be Fedora itself and go for Fedora Magazine etc ..... Market the "FEDORA" brand itself directly is a better choice to set it intothe mind of the Audience.
Just my 2cts worth.
Thanks you & Have a Nice Day

We're working on it :) It's going to be based on WP MU because other parts of the project would like blogging capability too, and we have packages etc, we just need to get some fixes upstream to make it work exactly how we want it to work and then to deploy a test instance to figure out workflows for contributors/editors.
We actually had a test instance with lyceum up a while ago now, but there wasn't so much interest so we thought we'd go this way and do things properly with the extra time. Good to hear more people are sounding interested now :)

Jon

That's user stories tho not contributor stories. Contributor stories might be easier to get.

That's exactly what I mentioned when the idea was born during a talk with Ricky yesterday @ #fedora-websites. We don't have a way yet to communicate with a normal Fedora user excepts of events. You can hardly ever see any info about Fedora on the Internet, excluding new releases and mainly some statistics. Ricky's idea about such campaign(s) could be a perfect way to reach an average user.

This would be a good thing to have. The Mozilla folks have had a small run at http://blog.mozilla.com/seth/2008/06/13/localizing-firefox-3-post-3-in-a-ser...

I think that this is a brilliant topic for OUR WEEKLY MARKETING MEETING.
Today at 3pm Eastern! 1900 UTC! irc.freenode.net, #fedora-mktg! All the cool kids will be there!
See you there. About four hours from now.

I'll be in a car travelling home from uni for the final time this year!
